RESEARCH _________________________________________________________________
 INCREASED STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES WITH HIGH-FIDELITY SIMULATION DO-OVER
During my graduate coursework I developed an evidence-based research project that assessed if
there was a change in student learning outcomes associated with a do-over of a high-fidelity
simulation involving an adult patient who experienced angina in an emergency room setting. The
project design consisted of an initial high-fidelity simulation, a debriefing session, followed by a
do-over of the exact same simulation and a debriefing session of the do-over experience. The groups
of students were video recorded during each simulation activity and each group was scored using the
Creighton-Simulation Evaluation Instrument (C-SEI). The C-SEI provides a quantitative measurement
of student performance during high-fidelity simulation.
Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. The project outcomes demonstrated that the
mean C-SEI score increased by 24% with student participation in the do-over simulation. The mean
C-SEI scores increased in each of the following categories of the C-SEI: Assessment,
Communication, Critical Thinking, and Technical Skills

 ORIENTATION VIDEOS FOR HIGH-FIDELITY SIMULATION
As a part of my graduate practicum experience, I developed an orientation to high-fidelity simulation
video resource to benefit allied health students at a Mid-Western community college. This orientation
resource consists of three video vignettes. The first vignette is a narrated PowerPoint presentation that
provides an introduction to high-fidelity simulation and SimMan. The second vignette in this learning
resource is a virtual tour of the simulation room and demonstration of mannequin characteristics. The
third video vignette consists of an example of a simulation scenario and debriefing session. This
orientation resource was a result of collaboration with nursing faculty, simulation staff members, and
information technology services staff.
