Morning Announcements- Journal Writing Math with David 9:30-11:00 Calendar Math—Basic Math Facts Practice Topic: Fractions and Division Lesson: 11.1 5.NF.3 Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (a/b = a ÷ b). Solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. Learning Objectives (“I can” statements): I can understand that fractions are really the division of a numerator by the denominator. I can solve word problems where I divide whole numbers to create an answer that is a mixed number. Essential Knowledge: The students will learn a fraction describes the division of a whole into equal parts, and it can be interpreted in more than one way depending on the hole being divided. Key Vocabulary: Manipulatives Needed: Circle Patterns (TT 29) 3 same size circles per group 10:30-11:00 4th Grade Math with Bryson 11:05 – 11:45 Lunch and Recess David will go and get his lunch with Mr. Sunderland and bring it back to the room to eat. Morning Announcements- Journal Writing Calendar Math—Basic Math Facts Practice Topic: Multiplying Fractions and Whole Numbers Lesson: 11.2 5.NF.4 Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction. 5.NF.4a Interpret the product (a/b) × q as a parts of a partition of q into b equal parts; equivalently, as the result of a sequence of operations a × q ÷ b. Learning Objectives (“I can” statements): I can interpret the product when I multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction by using a visual model and creating a story context for the equation. Essential Knowledge: The students will learn the product of a whole number and a fraction can be interpreted in different ways. One interpreted is repeated addition. Multiplying a whole number by fraction involves division as well as multiplication. The product is a fraction of the whole number. . 4th Grade Math with Bryson 11:05 – 11:45 Lunch and Recess 11:45-12:00 Structural Analysis and Word Work David will go and get his lunch with Mr. Sunderland and bring it back to the room to eat. Learning Objectives (“I can” statements): I can think of multiplication as the scaling of a number (similar to a scale on a map). Essential Knowledge: The students will learn rounding and compatible numbers can be used to estimate the product of fractions or mixed numbers. 10:30-11:00 4th Grade Math with Bryson 11:05 – 11:45 Lunch and Recess 11:45-12:00 Structural Analysis and Word Work David will go and get his lunch with Mr. Sunderland and bring it back to the room to eat. Learning Objectives (“I can” statements): I can multiply a fraction or whole number. I can interpret the product when I multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction by using a visual model and creating a story context for the equation. Essential Knowledge: The students will learn a unit square can be used to show the area meaning of fraction multiplication. When you multiply two fractions, the product is smaller than either fraction. To multiply fractions, write the product of the numerators over the product of the denominators. 10:30-11:00 4th Grade Math with Bryson 11:05 – 11:45 Lunch and Recess 11:45-12:15 Structural Analysis and Word Work David will go and get his lunch with Mr. Sunderland and bring it back to the room to eat.
