Response Questions for Human Genome Video
1. The video mentions that hundreds of millions of dollars are spent for the machinery to
finish the genome. The government spent taxpayer money to do this. At the same time, a
privately owned company was doing the same work. Do you think it is a good idea for
the government to spend so much money on research that is going to get done with or
without the government? Explain.
2. In segment 3 about tay-sachs disease the host says that the families experienced a “bad
role of the genetic dice.” As Christians, we often talk about God’s hand moving in our
lives. When something like Tay-Sachs disease happens in a family, do you think it is a
result of a role of the dice, or a result of (or lack of) God’s hand?
3. Segment 7 is about patents in research. What do you think the laws should be like in this
area?
