An Introduction to Microeconomic Theory
Course Description:
This course is one semester covering the principles of modern economic theory. Elements will outline the
concept of supply and demand, market, cost, quantity and price while recognizing the subjective nature of value
and expectations, the future-oriented natures of action, value, and cost that influence our choices.
Course Objective:
The objective of this course is to give students an introduction to economics in order to prepare the students to
be informed consumers and readers of economic principles and practices.
Student Learning Outcomes and Measurements:
Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of economic concepts, identify and apply basic principles and real
world cases. In addition, students will analyze and describe current economic environments and challenges.
Students will be measured through participation, discussions, assignments, group activities, presentations, five
exams and a final exam.
Student learning assessment:
A standard grading scale will be used. The following items will be graded accordingly and will carry the
assigned grading values.

400 points

e. Presentations
2. Five exams
500 points
3. Final exam
100 Points
Total = 1000 Points
Grade Values:
A = 90 – 100% B = 80 – 89% C = 70 – 79%
D = 60 – 69%
F = 59% or less
