Grade level Pre-K to G1
Lesson title Lesson 2 Classroom Routines
Step 1—Desired Results
Standard Outcomes for Learning (ACTFL Standard 1.1)—Answer’s the question, what should
students know, understand, and be able to do as a result of the lesson?
1. The students are supposed to be able to understand the instructions in Mandarin
(stand up/sit down/come in/raise your hands/applaud)
2. The students are supposed to find locations of Chengdu ,China (Mrs. Feng’s
hometown) and Huntsville, Alabama on the map and glue photos to the right
places as an extension.
Step 2—Assessment Evidence
Performance task—What will students do to show what they have learned?
1. The students will act properly when they hear the instructions in Mandarin.
2. The students will identify their location on the map and comprehend the distance
between China and America.
Step 3—Learning Plan
Learning activities - Answer’s the question, how do I teach it?
1.Warm up:① Wave the panda stick to them to remind them of greeting with ni hao(你
好).② Show my photo to remind them of my name Feng lao shi(冯老师).
2.Presentation: Use flashcards and TPR to teach the instructions “look/listen/talk/be
quiet/raise your hand”(kan 看/ting 听/shuo 说/an jing 安静/ju shou 举手).
3. Consolidation: GAME: Who’s got a card of …?
Give out the flashcards by random to some students, they are supposed to get up and
show their cards when they hear me saying the related instruction. Other kids who
haven’t got a card are expected to do the action when they hear the instruction ASAP
quietly. Play two to three times so that everybody can get a chance to hold a card.
4. Practice: ①Students take a look at the map with my photo on and try to copy my name in
Chinese pin yin down right below my photo” Feng lao shi”. ②Help students to find out
Huntsville on the map and ask them to circle it and then write down their own names so that
they can get an idea of how far away these two cities are.
Step 4—Reflection
What happened during my lesson? What did my students learn? How do I know?
What did I learn? How will I improve my lesson next time?
Most students can show me the right reaction when they heard the instructions in
Mandarin, they got quite familiar with to look, listen and talk. They were OK with stand
up and sit down when I gave the oral direction together with body language.(TPR)
Game was popular in class so I will continue designing more activities in my next lesson.
Also, I will use more visual impact in my next lesson.
