CAL293
From Isaiah 61:10
Anonymous
I am covered over
I am covered over with the robe of
righteousness that Jesus gives to
me,
I am covered over with the precious
blood of Jesus and He lives in me.
What a joy it is to know my heav’nly
Father loves me so and gives to me
my Jesus.
When He looks at me He sees not what
I used to be, but He sees Jesus. †
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
M: Friends in Christ:
Let us confess our sins to God our
Father and ask him in the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.
10
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
C: We confess that we are born
in bondage to sin and cannot
free ourselves.
We have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed, by
what we have done and by what
we have failed to do.
11
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
C: We have not loved you with
our whole heart, and we have
not loved our neighbour as
ourselves. We deserve your
eternal punishment.
For the sake of your Son,
Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.
12
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
C: Forgive us, renew us, and
lead us,
so that we may delight in your
will
and walk in your ways, to the
glory of your holy name.
Amen.
13
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
M: I ask each of you in the
presence of God who searches
the heart:
Do you confess that you have
sinned, and do you repent of your
sins?
C: I do.
14
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
M: Do you believe that Jesus
Christ has redeemed you from all
your sins, and do you desire
forgiveness in his name?
C: I do.
15
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
M: Do you intend with the help of
the Holy Spirit to live as in God's
presence, and to strive daily to
lead a holy life, even as Christ
has made you holy?
C: I do.
16
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
M: As a called and ordained servant
of the word, I announce the grace
of God to all of you. On behalf of
my Lord Jesus Christ, and by his
command, I forgive the sins of all of
you who repent and believe, in the
name of the Father and of the Son
† and of the Holy Spirit.
Peace be with you.
C: Amen.
17

first reading
Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17 CEV
Ruth and Boaz
R: The first Reading for the third last
Sunday of the Church year is written in
Ruth Chapter 3 beginning at verse 1.
Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17
One day, Naomi said to Ruth: It's time I
found you a husband, who will give you
a home and take care of you. 2You have
been picking up grain alongside the
women who work for Boaz, and you
know he is a relative of ours.
Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17
Tonight he will be threshing the grain.
3Now take a bath and put on some
perfume, then dress in your best clothes.
Go where he is working, but don't let him
see you until he has finished eating and
drinking.
Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17
4Watch where he goes to spend the night,
then when he is asleep, lift the cover and
lie down at his feet. He will tell you what
to do.
5Ruth answered, "I'll do whatever you
say.”
Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17
13 Boaz married Ruth, and the LORD
blessed her with a son.
14 After his birth, the women said to
Naomi: Praise the LORD! Today he has
given you a grandson to take care of
you. We pray that the boy will grow up to
be famous everywhere in Israel.
Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17
15 He will make you happy and take care
of you in your old age, because he is the
son of your daughter-in-law. And she
loves you more than seven sons of your
own would love you.
Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17
Naomi loved the boy and took good care
of him. 17 The neighborhood women
named him Obed, but they called him
"Naomi's Boy."
When Obed grew up he had a son named
Jesse, who later became the father of
King David.
This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Psalm 127
CEV
R: The Psalm is Psalm 127
1Without the help of the LORD it is
useless to build a home or to guard a
city
C: 2It is useless to get up early and
stay up late in order to earn a living.
R: God takes care of his own, even
while they sleep.
Psalm 127
CEV
C: 3Children are a blessing and a gift
from the LORD
R: 4Having a lot of children to take care
of you in your old age is like a warrior
with a lot of arrows.
Psalm 127
CEV
C: 5The more you have, the better off
you will be, because they will
protect you when your enemies
attack with arguments.
Glory to the Father and the Son and
the Holy Spirit; As it was in the
beginning is now and will be for
ever. Amen.
SECOND READING
Hebrews 9:24-28
CEV
Christ's sacrifice takes away sins
R: The second reading is written in
Hebrews Chapter 9 beginning at
verse 24.
Hebrews 9:24-28
24This
is why Christ did not go into a
tent that had been made by humans
and was only a copy of the real one.
Instead, he went into heaven and is
now there with God to help us.
Hebrews 9:24-28
25Christ
did not have to offer himself
many times. He wasn't like a high
priest who goes into the most holy
place each year to offer the blood of
an animal.
Hebrews 9:24-28
26If
he had offered himself every year,
he would have suffered many times
since the creation of the world. But
instead, near the end of time he
offered himself once and for all, so
that he could be a sacrifice that does
away with sin.
Hebrews 9:24-28
27We
die only once, and then we are
judged. 28So Christ died only once to
take away the sins of many people.
But when he comes again, it will not be
to take away sin. He will come to
save everyone who is waiting for him
This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
RESPONSE
C: ♫ Alleluia.
Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal
life.
Alleluia. Alleluia.

gospel
Mark 12:38-44
CEV
The widow's generous offering
M: The Holy Gospel is written in
Chapter 12 of the Gospel according
to St Mark beginning at verse 38.
C: ♫ Glory to you, O Lord.
Mark 12:38-44
38As
Jesus was teaching, he said:
Guard against the teachers of the
Law of Moses! They love to walk
around in long robes and be
greeted in the market. 39They like
the front seats in the meeting
places and the best seats at
banquets.
Mark 12:38-44
40But
they cheat widows out of their
homes and pray long prayers just
to show off. They will be punished
most of all.
41Jesus was sitting in the temple near
the offering box and watching
people put in their gifts. He noticed
that many rich people were giving a
lot of money.
Mark 12:38-44
42Finally,
a poor widow came up and
put in two coins that were worth
only a few pennies.
43Jesus told his disciples to gather
around him. Then he said: I tell you
that this poor widow has put in
more than all the others.
Mark 12:38-44
44Everyone
else gave what they
didn't need. But she is very poor
and gave everything she had. Now
she doesn't have a cent to live on.
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: ♫ Praise to you, O Christ.
Prayer after the gospel
M: Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your
great generosity to us.
Make our faith sincere, so that we
too give generously of ourselves.
C: Amen.
NICENE CREED
C: We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
50
NICENE CREED
We believe in one Lord, Jesus
Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, of one
Being with the Father; through
him all things were made.
51
NICENE CREED
For us* and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit
and the Virgin Mary and
became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified
under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was
buried.
* This means: us human beings
52
NICENE CREED
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the
Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand
of the Father.
He will come again in glory to
judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no
end.
53
NICENE CREED
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the
Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father
and the Son,
who with the Father and the
Son is worshipped and
glorified,
who has spoken through the
prophets.
54
NICENE CREED
We believe in one holy christian†
and apostolic church.
We acknowledge one baptism
for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of
the dead,
and the life of the world to
come.
Amen.
† or: 'catholic' here means 'universal'

Hymn
We sing :
Crown Him with many crowns
v. 1,3-5
LH113
CAL 293
Sts. 1, 3: Matthew Bridges (1800-1894)
Sts. 2, 4, 5: Godfrey Thring (1823-1903)
56
Crown Him with many crowns
1. Crown Him with many crowns, the
Lamb upon His throne.
Hark! How the heavenly anthem
drowns all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing of Him
who died for thee,
And hail Him as your matchless
King through all eternity.
57
Crown Him with many crowns
3. Crown Him the Lord of love,
behold His hands and side,
Those wounds, yet visible above, in
beauty glorified.
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For You
have died for me;
Your praise shall never, never fail
throughout eternity.
58
Crown Him with many crowns
4. Crown Him the Lord of life, who
triumphed over the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife for
those He came to save.
His glories now we sing, who died,
and rose on high,
Who died eternal life to bring, and
lives that death may die.
59
Crown Him with many crowns
5. Crown Him the Lord of Heaven,
enthroned in worlds above,
Crown Him the King to Whom is
given the wondrous name of Love.
Crown Him with many crowns, as
thrones before Him fall;
Crown Him, you kings, with many
crowns, for He is King of all.

Hymn
We sing as our free will offering is
received.
O bring to the Lord your tribute of
praise
v.1,2,3,5
LH 367
CAL 293
John Antes La Trobe 1792-1879
Rev E Harland's 'Psalter and Hymnal', 1865, alt.
O bring to the Lord your
tribute of praise
1. O bring to the Lord your tribute of
praise,
the guard of our life, the guide of our
ways;
the king of creation, he sits on the
throne,
the gold and the silver he claims as
his own.
O bring to the Lord your
tribute of praise
2. Whatever we have, all comes from
his love,
his gifts from beneath, his gifts from
above;
he gave us our treasures, the corn,
oil, and wine,
the pearl of the ocean, the gem of the
mine.
O bring to the Lord your
tribute of praise
3. But high above all he gave us his
Son
to die in our stead, for sin to atone;
no mine's golden treasure, no pearl of
the sea,
from bondage redeemed us: his
blood set us free.
O bring to the Lord your
tribute of praise
5. Then yield to the Lord the gifts of
his hand,
all his to dispense, and his to
command;
to his poor and needy your treasures
impart,
and give to your Saviour the love of
your heart.
