Genesis 2: 18-20
RERC 2-01a Mystery of God
The Naming of the Animals
The Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should
be alone. I will make him a helpmate.’ So from the soil
the Lord God fashioned all the wild beasts and all the
birds of heaven. These he brought to the man to see
what he would call them; each one was to bear the name
the man would give it.
The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of
heaven and all the wild beasts. But no helpmate suitable
for man was found for him.

The Messiah Will Heal
And yet ours were the sufferings he bore,
ours the sorrows he carried.
But we, we thought of him as someone punished,
struck by God, and brought low.
Yet he was pierced through for our faults,
crushed for our sins.
On him lies a punishment that brings us peace,
and through his wounds we are healed.

The Healing of the Paralysed Man
Jesus got in the boat, crossed the water and came to
his own town. Then some people appeared, bringing
him a paralytic stretched out on a bed. Seeing their
faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, ‘Courage, my child,
your sins are forgiven.’
And at this some scribes said to themselves, ‘This
man is blaspheming.’ Knowing what was in their minds
Jesus said, ‘Why do you have such wicked thoughts in
your hearts?

Now, which of these is easier to say, “Your sins are

forgive sins,’ – he said to the paralytic – ‘get up, and
pick up your bed and go off home.’ And the man got up

A feeling of awe came over the crowd when they saw
this, and they praised God for giving such power to

The Mystical Body of Christ
God has arranged the body so that more dignity
is given to the parts which are without it,
and so that there
may not be disagreements inside the body,
but that each part may be equally
concerned for all the others.
If one part is hurt, all parts are hurt with it.
If one part is given special honour, all parts enjoy it.
Now you together are Christ’s body;
but each of you is a different part of it.

RERC 1-01a Mystery of God
Six Days of Creation and the Sabbath
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Now the earth was a formless void,
there was darkness over the deep,
and God’s spirit hovered over the water.
God said, ‘Let there be light’, and there was light.
God saw that light was good,
and God divided light from darkness.
God called light ‘day’, and darkness he called ‘night.’
Evening came and morning came: the first day.

‘The man who had received the five talents promptly

man who had received two made two more in the same

As soon as Jesus was baptised he came up from the

Paul’s hymn to love
Be ambitious for the higher gifts. And I am going to
show you a way that is better than any of them.
Love is always patient and kind; it is never jealous; love
is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or
selfish; it does not take offence, and is not resentful.
Love takes no pleasure in other people’s sins but
delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to
trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes.
Love does not come to an end. But if there are gifts of
prophecy, the time will come when they must fail; or the
gift of languages, it will not continue for ever; and
knowledge – for this, too, the time will come when it
P6
must fail.

For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophesying is
imperfect; but once perfection comes, all imperfect
things will disappear. When I was a child, I used to talk
like a child, and think like a child, and argue like a child,
but now I am a man, all childish ways are put behind me.
Now we are seeing a dim reflection in a mirror; but then
we shall be seeing face to face. The knowledge that I
have now is imperfect; but then I
shall know as fully as I am known.
In short, there are three things that last: faith, hope

RERC 2-20a Reign of God
Real and active love
If a man who was rich enough in this world’s goods
saw that one of his brothers was in need,
but closed his heart to him,
how could the love of God be living in him?
My children,
our love is not to be just words or mere talk,
but something real and active;
only by this can we be certain
that we are children of the truth.

RERC 2-21a Reign of God
The last judgement
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘When the Son of Man comes
in his glory, escorted by all the angels, then he will take
his seat on his throne of glory. All the nations will be
assembled before him and he will separate men one
from another as the shepherd separates sheep from
goats. He will place the sheep on his right hand and the
goats on his left.
‘Then the King will say to those on his right hand, “Come,
you whom my Father has blessed, take for your heritage
the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of
the world.

The last judgement
For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty
and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made
me welcome; naked and you clothed me, sick and you
visited me, in prison and you came to see me.”
Then the virtuous will say to him in reply, “Lord, when
did we see you hungry and feed you; or thirsty and give
you drink? When did we see you a stranger and make
you welcome; naked and clothe you; sick or in prison and
go to see you?” And the King will answer, “I tell you
solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of
these brothers of mine, you did it to me.”

The Beatitudes
Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up the hill. There he sat
down and was joined by his disciples. Then he began to
speak. This is what he taught them:
‘How happy are the poor in spirit;
theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Happy the gentle:
they shall have the earth for their heritage.
Happy those who mourn:
they shall be comforted.
Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right:
they shall be satisfied.
Happy the merciful:
they shall have mercy shown them.

The Beatitudes
Happy the pure in heart:
they shall see God.
Happy the peacemakers:
they shall be called sons of God.
Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right:
theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Happy are you when people abuse you and persecute you
and speak all kinds of calumny against you on my
account.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven.’

Jesus forgives from the cross
When they reached the place called The Skull, they
crucified him there and the two criminals also, one on
the right, the other on the left. Jesus said, ‘Father,
forgive them; they do not know what they are doing.’
Then they cast lots to share out his clothing.
