Animal Farm Chapter Summaries Chapter 5: Mollie becomes a burden on the Animals in Animal Farm. She is arriving late for work, taking sugar from a local farmer, and stomping all over the tenets of Animalism. Eventually she is lured away by the farmer who gives her sugar, and no one mentions her again. It is getting cold and Napoleon and Snowball are arguing quite a bit. Napoleon is taking over all of the conversations. Snowball studies a lot of Mr. Jones’ old books, and brings a lot of knowledge into the conversations, he suggest that the animals make a windmill so that their work in the future will be much easier. Napoleon argues that they should focus on what they need now, instead of what they will need in the future. The animals seems to start thinking that creating the windmill is a good idea. They are about to vote, and Napoleon gives a yell, and all of the puppies, who have now grown into large dogs, run towards Snowball and chase him off the farm. The animals on Animal Farm are feeling very Confused, but Squealer sets them straight, by telling them that Snowball was a traitor and a criminal. The animals try to remember if this information is true. And, after awhile, Squealer has them all falsely convinced that Snowball is in fact a traitor. This allows Napoleon to be set up as the leader of Animal Farm, and allows for him to have all of the Animals support. _________________________________________________________ Chapter 6: *IF this is your group- focus your dialectical journal details on what the animals life is like on the farm, how Mr. Whymper interacts with the animals, and the way the commandments change.
