Health/Physical Education Graduation Requirement Options
Health/Physical Education requires 2.0 credits for graduation. The following will provide options to fulfill those requirements.
Core Required Courses-.5 credit
Options for obtaining Health credit-.5 credits (10thth grade)
1. ALA School Credit: Successful completion of the course at the high school.
2. Statewide Online Education Program: Successful completion of the course through online
programs such as EHS (Electronic High School). See counseling department for further
information.
3. Private Provider: Successful completion of course through a private provide such as BYU
Independent Study.

Options for obtaining Participation Skills credit-.5 credits (9th grade)
1. ALA School Credit: Successful completion of the course at the high school.
2. Statewide Online Education Program: Successful completion of the course through online
programs such as EHS (Electronic High School). See counseling department for further
information.
3. Private Provider: Successful completion of course through a private provide such as BYU
Independent Study.
Options for obtaining Fitness for Life credit-.5 credits, (9th or 10th grade)
1. ALA School Credit: Successful completion of the course at the high school.
2. Statewide Online Education Program: Successful completion of the course through online
programs such as EHS (Electronic High School). See counseling department for further
information.
3. Private Provider: Successful completion of course through a private provide such as BYU
Independent Study.
Core Required Courses-.5credit
Options for obtaining Individualized Lifetime Activities credit-.5 credits (11th preferred, can be taken 9th – 12th)
1. ALA School Credit: Successful completion of the Lifetime Activities course at the
high school. The following courses will fulfill the .5 Lifetime Activities requirement:
a. Lifetime Activities
b. Weight training
c. Athletics-Students that participate on an athletic team, including cheerleading and
drill may earn .25 credit per season of participation, up to a maximum of .5 credit.
d. Dance classes which may be offered as Individualized Lifetime Activities are limited to
Dance I, Dance II, Dance III, Ballroom, Ballroom Company, Hip Hop, Hip Hop Company, Evolution-Show
Choir or MDT-Dance. (Must take 1.0 credits to qualify for use in filling the Lifetime Activities
requirement.) These courses may not be used in lieu of any other required physical education class.
Course will be used to fulfill the Lifetime Activities requirement or Fine Arts elective credit, but not both.
2. Demonstrated Proficiency: If you are involved in outside athletics, you may qualify for credit. Credit will
be evaluated based on using the Utah State Office of Education five Core Standards for Individualized
Lifetime Activities. **
Individualized Lifetime Activities Core Standards:
Standard 1:
Students will demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement patterns,
Needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
Standard 2:
Students will demonstrate understanding of movement, fitness and nutrition concepts,
Principles and strategies as they apply to the performance of movement activities.
Standard 3:
Students will participate regularly in physical activities.
Standard 4:
Standard 5:
Students will achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
Students will exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and
Others in a physical activity setting.
**Submit application for Credit Review (see counseling department for form) to the ALA high school counseling department.
Credit will be evaluated by the counseling team, Health/Physical Education department and high school principal.
3. Private Provider: Successful completion of course through a private provider such as BYU Independent
Study.
