PART 1- Essay Include a cover sheet with your name, teacher name, book choice, and dates read Paragraph Expectations: 4 Total Paragraphs At least 5 sentences per paragraph—many paragraphs will require more! Typed/12 pt. Font/Times New Roman There must be a topic sentence, evidence from book, and closing sentence\ Paragraph 1—Setting, time, and Place When and where does the story take place? Do you think the events of this book could take place in a different setting? Why or why not? Identify the main physical setting from the novel. Identify the time period. How do you know this? Provide at least 2 quotes from the book to support your answers Paragraph 2—Character Relationship Identify the main characters and briefly describe him/her. Would you want to be friends with the main character? Explain How does the main character change throughout the book? Which character do you admire the most? Provide at least 2 quotes from the novel to help answer the questions. Paragraph 3—Theme There are several themes. (Lesson/Moral of the story). A Theme is stated as a sentence. It must have a complete lesson and an explanation of why that is the lesson. List three different themes in the novel and explain which one is the most important to you and why? Use at least 1 quote per theme from the novel to support your answer. PART 2- Plot diagram Fill in the plot diagram below- this should be very short and to the point- a plot diagram helps you write a longer summary. Answers should be listed- it should not be in paragraph format -Exposition (main characters, setting, and CONFLICT) -Rising Action-(events leading to the climax; REMEMBER- we only need the most important events -Climax- (highest point of the story, or when the conflict has been solved) -Falling Action- (events after the climax) -Resolution- (ending) Part 3 – Summary and Critique Provide a 1 paragraph summary of the book, include the overall main idea and theme. (710 sentences) Provide a 1 paragraph critique of the book. This is where you review your reaction to the book. What about the book did you like or dislike? Was this a well written story? Would you recommend it to others? Include any impactful passages or quotes from the book and explain why those were impactful to you.
