Elliott’s English III Tentative Lesson Plans Jan. 8th-Jan 18th Objectives for the Week: Students will gain practice with the reading comprehension of nonfiction text. Additionally, students will build up their vocabulary skills. TEKS: 1A-E, 6 Monday, Jan 8th: Teacher Work Day Tuesday, Jan 9th: Read and discuss Author’s Note from Into the Wild. Define key words using classroom dictionaries and see how they are utilized in the text. Wednesday, Jan. 10th: Students will briefly discuss Unit 7 Vocabulary. Read Chapter 1 of Into the Wild. Answer corresponding questions. Thursday, Jan. 11th: Students will read Chapter 2 of Into the Wild and answer reading questions to turn in as a quiz grade. Friday, Jan. 12th: Students will practice Unit 7 Vocabulary words by defining each word, recording a synonym and an antonym and then composing an original sentence using the word. Students will turn in vocabulary practice for a quiz grade. HW: Students are expected to prepare for Unit 7 Vocabulary Quiz on Wednesday, Jan. 16th. Assessment: This week’s progress will be determined upon reading quiz results and vocabulary quiz scheduled next week. Objectives for the Week: Our objectives for the week shift gears a bit as we begin preparing intensively for our TAKS tests coming up in March. In addition to reading the short chapters of the book Into the Wild to promote vocabulary and reading comprehension, students will begin to further develop their writing skills with a Writer’s Boot Camp Practice Booklet. Some work in the Writer’s Booklet may need to be finished up at home as writing exercises may require outside classtime. TEKS: Vocabulary 1A-E, Reading Comprehension 6, Writing Process 13A-E Monday, Jan. 14th: Discuss results of Chapter 2 Reading Quiz. Read Holmberg’s essay pg.2. Finish belief statements pages 3 and 4. (Note: There will be a reading quiz on Chapters 3-5 on Friday.) HW: Continue to work on belief statements as needed. Tuesday, Jan. 15th: Read Into the Wild for 10 minutes. Finish up discussion of belief statement results. Complete TAKS Practice in Workbook. HW: Make flashcards for Unit 7 Vocabulary Quiz. Wednesday, Jan 16th: Read Into the Wild and/or Study for Vocab Quiz for 10 minutes. Students will complete Unit 7 Vocabulary Quiz. How do we Write to Show? Complete practice in Writer’s Bootcamp pages 5 and 6. HW: Finish descriptive paragraph at home as needed. Thursday, Jan. 17th: Read Into the Wild for 10 minutes. Share responses from descriptive paragraphs with the class. What is Word Choice? Practice pages 7-9 in Writer’s Bootcamp Booklet. Friday, Jan. 18th: Read Into the Wild for 10 minutes. Complete Reading Quiz Chapters 3-5 of Into the Wild. Discuss/review book results. Discuss plans for TAKS Practice and Writer’s Bootcamp next week. Assessment: Students’ essay writing skills will be assessed by their writing performance in Writer’s Booklet. Student’s reading comprehension skills will be assessed by their progress with the quizzes from Into the Wild. Students will be assessed by the TAKS practice exercises that they complete and turn in.
