Avoid the Summer Reading S L I D E! Your children have worked so hard all year (as have you), so please enjoy your well-deserved summer break!! Remember, though, not to give your children’s brains too much of a break! Children who do not read over the summer will lose more than two months of reading achievement. This effect multiplies over time, putting them 2 years behind their classmates by the end of 6th grade. If you need help determining an appropriate level text for your children, please ask their teachers for guidance. Make reading a positive activity for your whole family and set goals for how much you each want to read over the summer.
