larger neighbor, Democratic Republic of Congo
(formerly known as Zaire), which borders the country
to the east.
Located on the west coast of Africa, Congo was
formerly known as French Equatorial Africa.
Civil war has been raging in this country for years.
Now at peace, the people are suffering from the
effects of war.
