Elizabeth Nielsen Social Media Marketing BUS 105, Ticket #19505 Saddleback College Historical Figure Reflection Paper “Jack Roosevelt Robinson ” For my pre-Facebook project and Facebook page I was free to choose an athlete as my historical figure, so I chose Jack Roosevelt Robinson. “Jackie” to those familiar with baseball, was the first African American to play on a major league baseball team in the “modern era.” Branch Rickey, President of the Brooklyn Dodgers, was responsible for this game-changing event. As I gathered my research information I found there was an official website with a Facebook page maintained by the Estate of Jackie Robinson. I gathered some of my biographical information from the site, including a real quote from Jackie Robinson which I posted on my unofficial Facebook page. I pulled photos, friends and additional information from other reputable sites because I wanted my Facebook page to reflect my personality and my own ideas about Jackie Robinson. I like Jackie’s new Facebook profile and would certainly friend him because I know how much his life impacted baseball. I included information about his personal story as baseball’s first African American, his letters at UCLA, his baseball awards and his service in the Army. . Facebook has changed the way we communicate. I think had social media been available when Jackie was alive it might have both positive and negative affects because our country was quite segregated at that time in history. I commend Jackie Robinson’s daughter and the Estate for being proactive and putting forth the effort to keep Jackie’s memory alive, and for the difference they are making in the lives of children in Los Angeles through baseball. 1 Elizabeth Nielsen Social Media Marketing BUS 105, Ticket #19505 Saddleback College Bibliography Legendary Pictures to Develop Movie About Jackie Robinson.
