Jackie Robinson Process Paper

How I Chose My Topic: I chose my topic because I have always been interested in the time
period of the 1920’s through the 1970’s. I have also always been interested about the civil rights
movement, especially during the time that Martin Luther King Jr. was marching for African
American rights. Another influencing factor to me choosing Jackie Robinson is that I am a huge
baseball fan. Before doing this report I had heard of him and how he was the first African
American to play major league baseball, but I was interested in finding out about how he got to
that point. I wanted to learn about how he had the bravery and the audacity to do what no one
had ever done before.
How I Conducted My Research: My research was conducted in a very orderly manner. I first
started by researching, and trying to find as many primary source articles as I could find. This
included articles from the newspaper at the time, magazine articles about Jackie Robinson during
his record breaking season, and even original letters to President Eisenhower about civil rights,
witch Jackie Robinson was a huge advocate for alongside Martin Luther King Jr. I then tried to
find the most credible cites to use as sources. I used many databases including Gale Research
Database. As my research continued, each site gave me more insight into the life of Jackie
Robinson, also each site gave me more information that proceeded to take me to another site
where I got more information and it just went on and on.
How I Selected My Presentation Category/Created My Project: How I chose my presentation
category stemmed from and elective I am taking called computer graphics. In my graphics,
throughout the year we have learned and practiced how to design and art piece in Photoshop.
My original idea was to do a project where I could use my advantage with using the computer, so
when I heard that we could do a website for our project, it inspired all sorts of ideas that I could
use for it so I just had to do it.
I started creating my project of a website by searching for interesting website designs and
pictures of Jackie Robinson that I particularly liked and could use for the home page. When I
had a good base to start with, I started designing each page one by one each with a different
theme, and then I was done.
How My Project Relates to The NHD Theme: My project relates to the NHD theme for many
reasons. First off, Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play major league baseball.
Resulting from his actions, and explosion of talented African American baseball players started
to join MLB. The second reason is one of civil rights, and how Jackie was a big influence to
them for African Americans. When Jackie Robinson Started playing, that gave hope to African
American everywhere with the thought that if he can do it and stand up to the white majority,
then why can’t I.
