Week #5
9/20
Students will turn in their Temple Grandin essay. Students will complete the outline as they
review the Powerpoint through Survey Research. Students will be assigned to complete the
Hands-on Activity on p. 13-due Tuesday, September 25th.
9/19
Students will be given the outline for Chapter 1 Section 2: Research Methods in Psychology.
Students will complete the outline as they review the Chapter 1 Section 2 Powerpoint through
Naturalistic Observation. Any remaining time, students may work on the essay which is due
tomorrow.
9/18
Students will be given the pretest for Chapter 1 Section 2: Research Methods in Psychology.
Students will turn this in and spend the remainder of the period working on the Temple Grandin
essay which is due Friday, September 20th.
9/17
Students will finish watching Temple Grandin and the special feature The Making of Temple
Grandin. Students will be given time to ask questions. Students will be given the Temple
Grandin essay guidelines and given the remainder of time in class to begin working on the essay.
9/16
Students watched the Movie Temple Grandin. Students were asked discussion questions that
would aid them in writing their essays on the movie.
Week #4
9/13
Some students made up tests while others reviewed their scores for the test. We discussed
whether we thought that Temple Grandin’s mother should have required her to attend college.
We watch the next section of Temple Grandin. I asked the same question again at the end of the
period.
9/12
Students spent a few minutes studying for the Chapter 1 Section 1 Quiz and asking questions as
needed. Students took the quiz. After the quiz, we watch the movie Temple Grandin.
9/11
We reviewed Chapter 1 Section1 Notes together and highlighted portions that would be quizzed
over tomorrow. I introduced the background information to the movie Temple Grandin, and we
began watching the movie.
9/9-9/10
No class due to Terra Nova Testing
Week #3
9/6
Students turned in video permission forms. Students could still bring this back until next week
for 1 bonus point. We reviewed the homework together. I passed out a copy of the completed
study guide. Students will take the quiz next Thursday.
9/5
Students finished the Chapter 1, Section1 Powerpoint. Students reviewed their study guide with
my study guide. Students were directed to finish homework as needed. Students were given the
Video Permission to take home and bring back for 2 bonus points tomorrow.
9/4
Students review Chapter 1, Section 1 Powerpoint. The students compared their study guide to
my study guide under Arthur Conan Doyle’s Belief in Fairies and the Law of Parsimony.
Students took notes under Guidelines for Psychology Detective #1-2. Students were given
homework: Becoming a Psychological Detective Pretest.
9/3
Students reviewed Chapter 1, Section 1 Powerpoint. The students then compared their notes on
the Chapter 1, Section 1 Study Guide to my outline under Becoming a Psychological Detective.
Students took notes under Arthur Conan Doyle's Belief in Fairies.
Week #2
8/30: 2nd Period:
We spent the period discussing The Jonestown Massacre (Picture Day).
8th Period: I passed out the Chapter 1, Section 1 Outline and discussed the Jonestown Massacre.
8/29- 2nd Period.
Students took notes as we reviewed Chapter 1, Section 1 Powerpoints.
8th Period: We began the class with a discussion of "What is normal." We began Chapter 1,
Section 1 Powerpoint.
8/28-2nd Period
Class began with a discussion of homework: What place does "beauty" play in society's idea of
"normal."? Students received copies of Chapter 1, Section 1 Outline. We began Chapter 1,
Section 1 Outline.
8th: 1st day of class. Watched the 2003 version of the Twilight Zone's "Eye of the Beholder."
Homework: Thing about what place "beauty" plays in society's idea of "normal?"
8/27- 2nd Period
Today we watched three You Tube clips that showed different perspectives of what "normal
looks like. First, we watch the remake of the 1960's version of The Twilight Zone's Eye of the
Beholder. Then we watched a video project that contained part of the original version. Finally,
we watched a Saturday Night Live version of clip. Students were to consider what place "beauty"
plays in our ideal of the norm as homework and be prepared to discuss their thoughts tomorrow.
8/26 - 2nd Period
Today we took the Psychology/Sociology Pretest. Student turned in the Test and Answer Doc.
Then, we discussed what psychology was and why we study psychology
Week #1
8/23
Today students took the 1st Week Test over syllabus and the no nonsense personality inventory.
We went over the answers together.
8/22
Today students worked on two handouts that were to be completed as homework as needed:
Interest Inventory (see link) and Bug Sheet (see Mrs. Ray).
8/21
Today we reviewed the main points of the Psychology/Sociology 2013-2014 class syllabus. You
need to finish reading this for homework. There will be a test on Friday.
