LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After the end of this session learner will b able to.
 Define the redox reaction?
 Types of chemical reaction and their importance in
environment, human body and nursing.
 Explain oxidation, reduction reaction with the help
of combination decomposition, single replacement
and double replacement reaction?
WHAT IS REDOX REACTION?
Redox reaction include all chemical reaction.
Redox- reduction + oxidation
Both process occurs simultaneauly.
So what is the OXIDATION?
{NOW MOVE ON NEXT SLIDE}
AND I WILL SHOW YOU
THAT,WHAT IS REDOX
WORKS?
REDOX…. Defination
An oxidation reduction ( redox ) reaction is a type of
chemical reaction that involves a transfer of electron
between two species
An oxidation reduction reaction in which the
oxidation number of molecule atom, or ion change by
gaining or loosing an electron
(search from google)
Oxidation Of Food: What a Waste
Fruits and vegetables oxidized when left in open air
Solution: Seal in plastic wrap
More redical: Add lemon juice to the cut fruit.
Oxidation Of People:
Oxidation of nutrients causes increased
activity of cell, leading to aging skin.
 Solution: beauty products.
REDOX
 OXIDATION
 REDUCTION
Gain in oxygen
Loss of oxygen
Loss of hydrogen
Gian of hydrogen
Loss of electron
Gain of electron
Types Of Chemical reaction:
Combination react..
 Two or + different substances are chemically combined to
form a new product.
Ex: A + B = AB
Ex: 2Na + Cl2 =2NCl
Decomposition react..
 One substance is chemically is decomposed into
two or new substances.
Ex: AB = A + B
Ex: 2H2O= 2Hg + O2
Single Replacement react..
 One element takes the place of an element in an
reacting compound.
Ex: A + BC =AC
Ex: Zn +2HCL =ZnCL2 + H2
Double Replacement raect..
 Two elements in reactants take the place of each other
Ex: AB + CD = AD + CB
Ex: AgNO3 + NaCLo = AgC + NaNo
Combustion react..
 A reaction of a Fuel with oxygen producing energy in
the form of heat, and light
Ex: C + O2 =CO2
Important to the environment and
human body

Important in chemical, physical, and biological
process.

Transfer of heat between ocean and atmosphere by
phase change.

Control oceanic vertical circulation, aids in heat
distribution, and allow seasonal stratification.

Control drop formation in rain and clouds (important in
cell physiology)

Important on the small scale, especially on the cellular
level

Prevent extreme range in earth’s temperature ( i.e great
heat moderates).
 Thermostatic heat regulating effect due to the release
of heat on freezing and absorption on melting
 Object appear closer than in air .
 Density changes only slightly with pressure /depth
 Allow water exist as a liquid on most earth.
