COLLABORATIVE MASTER’S DEGREE IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP (INCLUDING ENDORSEMENT FOR PRINICIPAL CERTIFICATION) The University of Oklahoma Jainine Rainbolt College of Education, Educational Administration, Curriculum and Supervision Program Area (EACS) and Norman Public Schools (NPS) Features: Collaborative effort involving local school districts and a nationally recognized higher education faculty. Cohort format, emphasizing student networking. Leadership with an emphasis on: o Enhancing teaching and learning in NPS (and surrounding districts) through the systematic identification of promising aspirant leaders to the principalship; o Developing the competencies and abilities of aspiring principals (i.e. including but not limited to instructional leadership, data-driven decision-making, strategic thinking & planning, continuous improvement; organizational capacity & learning) ; and, o Cultivation of effective 21st century school leaders Innovation that includes: o A curriculum that encompasses theory and knowledge of effective leadership and successful schools, and also is grounded in practice. The coursework has a strong emphasis on instructional improvement and transformational leadership to increase student achievement; o Course delivery by OU faculty and experienced district practitioners who have knowledge of the educational issues facing schools; o A high quality internship integrated with coursework and supervised by expert principals and OU professors; o The development of practical leadership competencies based on scholarship; and, o Class meetings in an authentic environment (a NPS designated site). Major Core (27 credit hours): EACS 5233 Organization of Education EACS 5343 Financial Leadership in Schools EACS 5543 School Level Instructional Leadership EACS 6403 Inquiry for Performance Improvement EACS 5573 Supervision of Instruction EACS 5243 Education and the Law EACS 5693 Technology in Educational Administration EACS 5333 Politics in Educational Administration EACS 5920 Principal Internship 2. Elective Courses (9 credit hours): Any EACS course outside the major core. A course outside EACS may serve as an elective if approved by the student’s advisor. *New master’s program effective fall 2011, pending approval by the OU Board of Regents. Course Format: Initial class of each semester will be offered at OU campus. Subsequent classes will meet at an NPS facility. Required cohort courses during fall and spring semesters will be offered on Monday afternoons, as follows: Course 1 4:25 to 7:05 pm Course 2 7:15 to 9:55 pm Additionally, one elective course will be offered each semester, on Thursday afternoons during fall and spring semesters (time to be determined). Summer scheduling information is forthcoming.
