A few things that your child is expected to do by the end of Kindergarten and working on it in Spanish throughout the year • Count orally from 1-100 • Identify and form letters and numbers (0-20) correctly • Simple addition and subtraction • Know all uppercase and lowercase letters and their sounds • Read a level 3/4 text without assistance Continued… • Read and recognize 26 sight words • Complete and return homework assignments • Write a complete sentence, spelling words phonetically (the way they sound) • Write a short story/illustrate Important Tips For A Successful Year • Keep your child’s lunch account up to date o We recommend sending a check for the entire month or you can send money daily in an envelope or for the whole week. • Keep a set of clothing (including underwear) in your child’s backpack. • Teach your child to tie his/her shoes and fasten his/her clothing. Please do not dress your child with a belt until you know he/she can fasten it independently and quickly. Take Home Folders • BLUE -Conduct folders are sent home daily. Please sign and return each day. It will have conduct sheet/homework and notes from the office. • RED- Weekly folders will be sent home with important information from school as well as all of your child’s completed work for the week. Please review these rules with your child. Each day, please look at the folder and sign your initials on the date for that day so that I will know that you observed the calendar. Don’t forget to give sincere praise for good behavior. Let’s work together to have a great school year. Class Rules 1. Come happy and ready to learn. 2. Keep hands and feet to yourself (be a good friend). 3. Listen when someone is speaking. Raise your hand to speak. 4. Walk inside the building 5. Keep your area clean Positive Behavior Plan This plan represents your child’s behavior during the day. A take-home folder will be sent home every EVERYDAY with your child. This folder will have a monthly calendar inside to let you know your child is doing each day. Let’s work together to make this a GREAT YEAR!!! Make sure children are aware of expected behavior and understand classroom rules. First Offense- Green Happy Face: A verbal warning will be given regarding the child’s behavior choice. The child’s clip will not be moved from the . Second Offense- Yellow Straight Face: 5-minutes of recess or stations will be taken away. The child’s clip will be moved to yellow. Their folder will be noted along with the rule that the child chose to break. Third Offense-Red Sad Face: 10-minutes of recess or stations will be taken away. The child’s clip will be moved to red. Their folder will be noted along with the rule that the child chose to break. Fourth Offense-Send to Principal: The child will be sent to the principal OR a call home to the parents will be made OR send a note home depending on the behavior of the child. For severe offenses such as biting, hitting the teacher or friends, yelling and/or screaming in anger, or bad language the child will be sent to the principal’s office and a discipline note from the office will be sent home. ** A conduct grade will be given on the report card based on the number of times the child has moved their clip • • Excellent: 0-1 Satisfactory: 2-5 Needs Improvement: 6-9 Unsatisfactory: 10-15 Snack Time • Due to our early lunch hour, we will be having a snack time every afternoon. We are going to ask you to please make this a success. We will need you to bring 22 individually wrapped snacks to school at the beginning of each month. I will put all snacks in a bucket and each day your child will be able to choose a snack. Please make sure the snack is nutritious and not very messy. The snack will have to be store bought. Here are a few ideas of what you could bring… – – – – – – – – * fruit grain bars *animal crackers *crackers (with cheese or peanut butter) *fruit snacks *goldfish *vanilla wafers *pretzels *trail mix Additional Info: • • • Absences- If your child is absent, please make sure you send a note to school when he/ she returns. The note should include: why they were absent, their name, teacher’s name, date, and days they were absent. Going Home- If there is a change in how your child goes home, please be sure to send a note to school to let me know of the change. That way I can be sure to get them home the correct way. Class Directory- I would like to create a class directory of your child’s name, address, phone number and email address. This is strictly for our class only. The purpose of it is for those parents who would like to mail birthday party invitations, parents can contact one another to help plan our class parties, etc. I am attaching a permission form. Please fill out and return to me. There is a place you can sign if you wish not to participate. More Info… • • • Parties- We have 3 class parties…Christmas, Valentines, and End of the Year. I will have sheets for you to sign up to either coordinate the party or help out. Volunteers- There are many opportunities for you to get involved in our school. If you would like to volunteer in any way, you must first go onto the website www.pearlandisd.org and click on “Become a Pearland ISD volunteer” link. We would love for you to help out in the cafeteria, join and be a part of the PTA, chaperone our field trip, be a part of WATCH DOGS, etc. Book Orders- Every 4-6 weeks, I will send home a book order form. You will be able to look through it and order books if you would like. There are great books that cover some of the things we are learning about in the classroom and some other fun books your child may be interested in. It is entirely optional. Parent/ Teacher Conferences • We are required to have a face to face conference with each child’s parent in our class. I will have a sign up sheet with days and times of when we can meet. I have times available during my conference time as well as after school. Please mark your calendars of the day and time you choose. • All conferences must be completed before the end of the 1st nine weeks of school.
