After receiving HLS and registration form from school office,
determine student’s assessment needs
• Review HLS Home Language Survey
• Screen previous records/Complete green ESL Screening
Checklist ESL Screening Checklist
• Contact parents before testing
• Administer W-APT
 Beginning of year -within 30 calendar days
 During school year – within 14 calendar days
 Kindergarten students
• Attach W-APT results and/or ESL Screening Checklist to HLS
in cumulative folder

for any change of status.

your school.
• Update the number of years in U.S. schools of
immigrants from previous years to keep list accurate.
