POLOCIES
Grading Policy
- We will cover four chapters during the semester. They are called “Lecciones.”
- There will be quizzes and regular exams, one at the end of each chapter, and the Final Exam.
- You may not miss any quizzes or exams if you want to receive credit for this course.
- Very important!!! This instructor requires that students keep all quizzes, tests, exams, and
graded homework till the end of the semester. In case of a grade discrepancy, no grade will be
changed without the corresponding original exam.
- All course work grades will be averaged to obtain the semester grade. Incomplete grades are
given only in emergency situations, not for routine failure to complete the requirements of the
course.
Make-Up Policy:
You may not miss any test or exams if you want to receive credits for this course. Make-up
exams are given only if you call the instructor or send her an e-mail on the day the exam is
scheduled in order to arrange for a make-up exam to be taken within 3 days. . If you fail to call
before or the day of the exam date, you will miss your opportunity for a make-up exam, no
2
exceptions. The same policy applies if the student fails to take the quiz or test during its 3days
period.
Attendance and Participation:
Due to the communicative nature of this course absences are discouraged. Each absence will
have as a consequence points deducted from your final grade. If the student plans to miss class
he/she must notify the instructor in advance to determine how missed work (exams) may be
completed. In the event of an unforeseeable absence (i.e. medical emergency, etc.) please notify
the instructor as soon as possible. Documents will be required.
As stated in the Wayland Catalog, students enrolled at one of the University’s external campuses
should make every effort to attend all class meetings. All absences must be explained to the
instructor, who will then determine whether the omitted work may be made up. When a student
reaches that number of absences considered by the instructor to be excessive, the instructor will
so advise the student and file an unsatisfactory progress report with the campus executive
director. Any student who misses 25 percent or more of the regularly scheduled class meetings
may receive a grade of F in the course. Additional attendance policies for each course, as
defined by the instructor in the course syllabus, are considered a part of the University’s
attendance policy.
Role Plays and Cultural Presentation:
Role plays and the cultural project must be done in class on the date listed in the tentative
schedule
Homework:
Although late homework submissions are discourage, homework assignments will be accepted
only one class period late but with an automatic 20% penalty. Please see page 6 of the syllabus
for a listing of exercises due.
Cell Phones:
Cell phones should be turned off during class. However, in an emergency situation cell phones
may be left on in VIBRATE MODE ONLY. If an emergency call MUST be taken during class
time, the student must answer the phone outside the classroom and away from the door.
TEXTING is never allowed in class. Please use common sense and common courtesy.
Disability Statement:
“In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), it is the policy of
Wayland Baptist University that no otherwise qualified person with a disability be excluded from
participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any educational
program or activity in the university. The Coordinator of Counseling Services serves as the
coordinator of students with a disability and should be contacted concerning accommodation
requests at (806) 291- 3765. Documentation of a disability must accompany any request for
accommodations.”

RECOMMENDATIONS AND POLICIES

Please do not substitute a Spanish word for an English word in your sentences or
paragraphs. Use the vocabulary for the chapter or a dictionary. You must respond only in
Spanish on assignments.

Check all submitted assignments for comments and feedback. At the discretion of the
instructor, assignments may be returned to be redone. You will have 2 days from the due
date to return the assignment with any changes. Any assignments not returned within 2
days will receive the original grade assignment.

Do not use an electronic translator. It is easy for instructors to detect when a student is
using a translator, because translators do not translate ideas, idiomatic expressions, and
can’t interpret the communication intention and sense in the speech. The result of using a
translator is writing that does not make sense at all and you will receive 0 points for such
assignments.

Start to study and work at the beginning of the week. You will need time to acquire the
vocabulary and understand the grammar explanations in order to do your assignments. If
you wait until the due date to submit your assignments, you will be overwhelmed.
