Worthingway Updates: 9-22-14
The following is an update for the coming week (please see the school website for
athletic updates):
Weekly updates are also posted at the school website.
9/23 Tues. PTA Meeting 6:00 p.m.
PTA News:
PTA is happy to announce we have a new Worthington Council Chair, Kathy
Kosanovich, parent of Anna, 7th grader. Thank you Kathy for stepping up to the plate.
All spirit wear orders are due by Friday 9-20-14. All orders will be submitted together
and will be delivered to us by Oct 10, 2014. The students have been asking when their tshirts and hoodies are coming in.
We are also in search of a Hospitality chairperson. This person will be responsible for
coordinating six meals for our teachers and staff. We have approximately 22 volunteers
that signed up to help, but we are in need of a person to head it up and coordinate. The
dates for the meals are 10-27-14, 10-29-14, 2-9-14, 2-11-15, 4-22-15 and 5-5-15. Please
call me (Lisa) if you are interested at 614-506-3273.
Concessions are working well. This is a great way for us to bring in money for our
school. We are currently selling all beef hotdogs $2.00, drinks $1.00, chips .50,
candy/popcorn $1.00 and our big seller is pickles for $1.00. We are working on getting
nachos at next week’s sporting events.
Please join us for our Sept 23rd PTA Meeting at 6:00 pm in the school library.
Digital Danger Program:
We are excited to have Dr. Tim Conrad and Officer Don Stanko back to WKHS on
Monday, September 29th at 6 p.m. in the WKHS Auditorium. As digital technology and
social media continues to develop, it is important that we stay current with these trends to
help keep our students/children safe online. If you have a computer or a smart phone,
you are creating a "digital footprint" that will be viewed by all, including employers and
colleges. I believe that together we have an obligation to help our youth understand that
what they do and say online can and will affect their future.
Please join us on Monday, September 29th at 6 p.m. in our WKHS Auditorium to learn
from our experts.
Lunch Accounts:
If you want to remain on the Free/Reduced Breakfast & Lunch Program, you will need to
have a completed application turned in as soon as possible. If you don’t, your lunch
prices will change on 9/29/14. Applications are available in the office, or online at
www.worthington.k12.oh.us. Balances can be checked by logging into
www.mypaymentsplus.com.
Mrs. Newcomb’s Spanish Class:
Sra. Newcomb's 1B students finally took their first summative test on Friday, September
19th. Grades will be changing to reflect the knowledge demonstrated on this assessment
so check IC for the update! We have shifted from review to learning new vocabulary and
grammar and then using the new stuff to expand what we can do in Spanish.
Sra. Newcomb's 1A students are beginning to work with calendar terms and date-writing
patterns. Everyone should be working on Spanish a little bit most evenings. Written
homework or flashcards or reviewing the numbers 0-30 are all things that every student
should be doing regularly.
Coat Drive for Worthington Kids:
If your child has outgrown last year’s winter coat and it is still in good condition, please
consider donating it. Now through October 15th, we are collecting children’s coats in an
effort to generate enough winter coats and cold weather accessories to keep our
Worthington children warm this winter. We have placed a donation box outside our
office door. Last year, St. Michael’s Church gave over 300 coats to our Worthington
students in need, but still ran short. We are hoping to generate enough donations this year
to be able to help them meet the need. Please consider getting that outgrown coat out of
the closet and donating it.
Guidance Counselor Survey:
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Please take a few minutes to fill out a quick, confidential survey concerning your
student's needs. This will help Miss Deuschle, the School Counselor; create programming
that fits with the students' needs and concerns.

Please do not hesitate to email NDeuschle@wscloud.org with questions or concerns.
Thank you!
