Deep Run Marathon Dance 2013 Beneficiaries Brain Injury Association of Virginia: Founded in 1983 by families and concerned professionals, the Brain Injury Association of Virginia is the only statewide non-profit organization in Virginia exclusively devoted to serving individuals with brain injury, their families, and those that care for and about them. Over 10,000 people find help from BIAV each year. BIAV exists to be the primary source of information and personal support for thousands of individuals, families, and professionals living in Virginia whose lives have been touched by a life-altering, often devastating injury. We provide help to people who desperately need it, to be their voice in ways they can't, to fight for their rights to receive supports and services necessary to live a full and meaningful life. Canine Companions for Independence: Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) is a non-profit organization that breeds, trains and places highly trained assistance dogs to children and adults with disabilities - FREE OF CHARGE. The most advanced technology capable of transforming the lives of people with disabilities has a cold nose and a warm heart! The money raised at the Marathon Dance will help fund all the services that contribute to making our teams successful and long lasting. Center for High Blood Pressure: The devastating impact of strokes in the United States will reach every community, and Richmond has especially high rates of stroke. Strokes not only cause death, but are the leading cause of disability in the United States and account for 795,000 medical events each year at a cost of $63,000,000 in health care costs, medication and lost work time. For almost 30 years the Center has been a place of health, healing, and learning for countless patients and students. Please join us in Touching Hearts and Saving Lives at the Center for High Blood Pressure. CJ’s Thumbs Up Foundation: Good, healthy meals in the hospital are part of that effort and if you need to know how much a freaked out mom appreciates being able to get a healthy meal, just come to a Lunch Bunch event and look into her eyes. It’s through generosity of people like you that these things are possible. We provide financial assistance to families of children with chronic and life-threatening illness. We also have a small but growing meal program and occasionally, we even provide emergency gas cards and bill payment. Elijah House Academy: The mission of Elijah House Academy is to assist parents in providing a quality education in a protected environment for the children of our city.. The attention, nurture, structure, and discipline necessary for success in our society are often replaced with neglect, brokenness, and illicit behavior. Without intervention these youth will likely pattern their lives after the negative peer culture surrounding them. Our long-term priority area is at-risk youth in portions of the area defined by the 23224 and 23234 zip code. Galloping Acres: Galloping Acres primary mission is to encourage people with disabilities, their families, and friends to achieve a better quality of life including physical, emotional, social, and spiritual development through the dynamics of therapeutic horseback riding. Therapeutic riding is the use of a horse and its environment to help physically, mentally, emotionally and/or learning disabled individuals build confidence, improve muscle strength, flexibility, concentration, memory and socialization skills. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ A Grace Place: A Grace Place Adult Care Center (AGP) provides daytime care to adults with disabilities and age-related conditions. AGP is a community-based alternative to nursing homes or residential care. The AGP approach is personcentered: each care plan is individualized, includes input from the participant’s social network, and is driven by the individual rather than the agency. AGP’s history and mission reflect a unique connection to our work. AGP was founded in Richmond, Virginia in 1967 by an individual with a true moral compass—and significant disabilities. Forty-five years later, the agency’s mission remains the same: A Grace Place is committed to improving life every day by igniting hope, instilling pride, and offering compassionate support for adults with disabilities and their caregivers. Jackson-Feild Home: Jackson-Feild Homes' mission is to heal children who have suffered severe trauma and to support their families to end generational patterns of abuse and neglect by providing therapeutic, residential, educational and community-based services while we equip children to lead independent, productive lives. The Messages Project: Since 1999, the Messages Project has visited state prisons throughout Virginia three times a year to create videotaped messages of love and support from incarcerated parents to children. The DVDs are mailed to children and families, often with a book or poems and messages that might have been read on camera. Some of the messages have even gone international, though most are for children in Virginia and the U.S. Our mission is to maintain, or in many cases re-build, the connection between imprisoned parents and the children that are left behind. We send messages to every county and city in the state of Virginia. Richmond Friends of the Homeless: Richmond Friends of the Homeless was founded to strengthen and enrich the lives of those living in poverty in our community. Our mission is served by providing nourishing meals and services to those in need. The main thrust of our work is alleviating hunger. Through our work, however, we have become aware of the large numbers of children desperately attempting to complete their education in spite of tremendous odds. Often they have no decent clothes for school, no coat, no supplies. These are the children we want to help through your dance. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Safe Harbor: Safe Harbor is a non-profit organization that provides services to anyone who has experienced sexual or domestic violence regardless of race, age, gender identity, faith, sexual orientation and geographic location.
