CRITICAL THINKING
ITS PURPOSE AND NECESSITY
In our society today there is a general lack of basic fundamental understanding of the skills that
it takes be creative, innovative and knowledgeable. With all the information that is spread
throughout the world thanks to the rise of technology and the internet, how can we asses what
is real, truthful, and substantially fundamental? Having the skill of thinking critically is the
foundation of new intellectual discoveries. Being able to dissect a body of work, theory or idea
like a science professor would examine a frog in a chemistry lab, can lead to conclusions that
could be groundbreaking in our society. Critical thinking takes assuming out of the picture and
allows the mind to actually asses what is truly happening which then leads to rational
conclusions.
The Process of Critical Thinking ……
can lead to better French Kissing
As I continue with explaining the process of Critical Thinking, I will demonstrate how thinking
critically can help you gain knowledge, experience and exciting conclusions by applying it to
everyday situations in life. Within the next several slides I will narrative how Jessica becomes a
better French Kisser by using the Critical Thinking Process.
With all the pressures that college life has to offer like keeping up with homework, assignments
and projects, Jessica realizes that she has never French Kissed a guy before. Because of her
inexperience and horrific stories she has heard of French kissing gone wrong, Jessica decides to use
the Critical Thinking Process to learn about how to French Kiss.
A Problem or an Issue?
In chapter 7 of our text we learned to distinguish the difference between a problem and an issue.
When evaluating this topic I have learned that I should first distinguish if Jessica is dealing with a
problem or an issue. Though lack of experience in French Kissing may not be a difficult situation to
solve I would like to acknowledge that in Jessica’s case this is in fact a Problem, and here's why.
There is nothing about learning to become a French Kisser that is likely to divide informed intelligent
people or cause controversy because, if so it would be considered an Issue. Jessica's situation only
effects her and in order for her to establish a conclusion she has to ask questions like “How can …..?”.
So now that we’ve established that Jessica is indeed dealing with a problem here, let take a look at
The Critical Thinking Process.

The Critical Thinking Process
KNOWLEGE
Jessica checks out a couple of books
and a documentary about the ins and
outs of French Kissing from her local
library. She takes the video and
literature to her dorm room and beings
to gain knowledge on what French
kissing is all about. While watching the
video she lists the information she saw
that was important to know. She also
described and identified all aspects of
kissing like the tongue, lips, teeth and
saliva.
COMPREHENSION
Now that she has gained fundamental
knowledge on French kissing she
decided to discuss the topic with her
peers and get a better understanding of
how to French kiss and be good at it!
They all had a discussion and her
experienced peers explained and
describes how to be a good French
kisser.
APPLICATION
The discussion with her friends went
well. Now that Jessica understands how
to French kiss it is time for to apply her
knowledge and gain some experience!
Here Jessica is demonstrating all of the
knowledge that she has gained
overtime.
ANALYSIS
After French Kissing for the first time
Jessica decides to breakdown what
happened while she was kissing her
friend. She begins to classify her data
by putting it in order so she can better
distinguish what really went on. What
went well with the kiss? What went
wrong? What changes could she make
for it to go smoother next time.
SYNTHESIS
After thoroughly analyzing her first
French kiss, Jessica now knows that it’s
time to try again. Analyzing her last
kissed really helped her to see what she
needed to do this time in order for her
kiss to be better. She realized that her
last kiss was too tense. So she modified
some things as well as incorporating
some new ideas that she came up with
while analyzing. She closes her eyes
this time so it could help her relax and
then went for it!
EVALUATION
Finally Jessica compared and tested her
data she finally discovered how to
French Kiss Properly and effectively.
Her friends support her progress and
she intellectually and CRITICALLY found
a solutions to her problem of never
French Kissing before.
CONCLUSION
Critical Thinking can and should be used in everyday life. In this modern world as
it continues to grow we should grow as well and become better thinkers. Thinking
Critically can help you solve any problem or issue that you may come across. New
conclusions and innovative possibilities can develop by simply applying The
Creative Thinking Process.
