Substitution in consumption: • A high resource prices raises the product price and consumers substitute other goods. • The more elastic product’s demand, the more elastic is the demand for the resource. The Demand for Resources • As a resource price increases, producers will: • use substitute resources, or • face higher costs These lead to higher prices and a reduction in consumption. • At the lower output, firms use less of the resource that increased in price.
