American scientist Benjamin Franklin invented the glass harmonica, also known as the
Franklin harmonica, in the early 1760s. It is a mechanical version of the much simpler
musical glasses that were popular at that time. These were a set of glass bowls of different
sizes that were arranged from smallest to largest to produce distinct pitches. The bowls
were fine-tuned by filling them partially with water. In the Franklin model, shallow glass
basins are attached to a horizontal spindle that is revolved by a crank attached to a pedal.
The spindle is placed in a trough of water so that the glasses are kept wet. The
shimmering, bell-like sound is produced by touching the fingers to the wet edges. This
instrument was popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries
What is being defined in the paragraph above?
A.) A set of distinct pitches.
B.) Musical glasses.

Everyday life in space is different from life on earth. Even sleeping is an
adventure for astronauts. Some astronauts like to float free in the Shuttle to
sleep, gently bouncing off a wall once in a while. Other astronauts sleep better if
they are zipped into a sleeping bag. This feels more like sleeping in a bed on
earth. There's even a little pillow they can fasten to their heads with a strap!
Astronauts have a hard time staying clean in space. There is no shower or
bathtub on the Shuttle, so astronauts have to take sponge baths. They can
brush their teeth the regular way, but have to be careful that toothpaste globs
don't drift away. All the trash and garbage has to be brought back to earth.
What is a main idea from this reading selection?
A.) Everyday life in space is different from life on Earth.
B.) Astronauts have a rough life while in Outer Space.
C.) Being an astronaut is a fun job!
D.) Astronauts have a hard time staying clean in space.
