Annotated bibliography Micheal. "Currently: Do Gun Control Laws Work? A Look at the Data." Weblog post. Currently: Do Gun Control Laws Work? A Look at the Data. N.p., 22 Dec. 2012. Web. 13 Oct. 2013. This article is about the statistical correlation between gun control and the population. It gives statistical data and graphs that show all of the relationships with guns and murder as well as the years it increases and decreases. This will be very essential to my project over gun control by showing the hard data as well as the very well explained benefits of having weapons as homeowners and casual civilians walking on the streets. Margarian, Gregory P. Rep. N.p.: n.p., n.d. Speaking Truth to Firepower: How the First Amendment Destabilizes the Second. Web. 11 Oct. 2013. This report from this person is going to be a substantial help to my paper. This article talks about how the 1st amemdment allows us to have guns by justifying the 2nd amendment. It explains every little bit from the preamble of the constitution to the bill of rights itself. I love how it justifies that our freedom to live life with liberty and the pursuit of happiness and the oppression from the government intervening with gun control affects the people’s right to live happy by taking that right away. With the report also having citations and published from a university I feel it will be a big help to my paper. United States. Government Accountability Office. GUN CONTROL States’ Laws and Requirements for Concealed Carry Permits Vary across the Nation. By GAO. United States Government, July 2012. Web. 11 Oct. 2013. This source was published by our nation’s government. What it talks about is the statistics and requirements of carrying a concealed weapon from state to state. Through the hard data you can see how many citizens actually carry a weapon and the state requirements that are needed to be able to carry the weapon. With this article I can reinforce the idea and the correlation between the uses of a deadly weapon and how many citizens actually carry a firearm on them. I can also show that not a liot of people are allowed to carry a weapon unless they have the requirements that the state wants. Also I can show a correlation of crime in states that ban concealed weapons and the ones that do not. United States. Government Accountability Office. GUN CONTROL Sharing Promising Practices and Assessing Incentives Could Better Position Justice to Assist States in Providing Records for Background Checks. By GAO. United States Government, July 2012. Web. 11 Oct. 2013. In this article, we see what kind of procedures the state actually does for gun control by showing the background checks and the requirements for the individual themselves to be able to buy a weapon. It shows what kind of background check you need and what mental or psychotic issues an individual might have. It shows the procedures by saying what forms they use and what the state actually asks for in a background check. It will help reinforce the research paper by showing that the states need to reinforce more on the background checks and saying that, they should be able to eliminate the people who actually kill other humans and allow the law abiding citizens access to weapons and firearms for personal protection. Lott, John R. More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun-control Laws. 3rd ed. Chicago: University of Chicago, 1998. Print. In this article the title explains all. The author shows the relationship that more guns equals less violence. He does this by showing the research data throughout the years and shows that the increase in firearms is actually causing less crime than producing it. The author also shows the benefits and the disadvantages that firearms bring in this world. Not only does this article provide insight on the subject on gun control, but it also is used widely by gun control opposers to show the advocates the hard data and the advantages of guns to the point where the advocates cannot come back with a valid argument. United States. US Department of Justice. Office of Justice Programs. Reducing Gun Violence: Community Problem Solving in Atlanta. By Authur L. Kellermann, Dawna Fuqua-Whitley, and Constance S. Parramore. United States Government, June 2006. Web. 10 Oct. 2013. In this article provided by the government, it shows procedures taken to reduce gun violence in the state of Georgia. In this article it shows the process and procedures that the state is taking in order to reduce the crime with guns against citizens. It also shows the problem that is being cause by guns and the actions to help stop those problems. This article will show a good counter argument to the side of favoring gun control so there is a little less bias in the paper and to show the other sides argument. FBI. "National Instant Criminal Background Check System." FBI. FBI, 21 May 2010. Web. 12 Oct. 2013. This website from the fbi reinforces the idea of criminal background checks in order to possess a firearm. It shows that if you did crime or you have a felony that you will not be permitted to buy a firearm. Instead of it being a state guideline to buying firearms, it is implied that this is a government guideline that all states should abide by. In saying this, this can help reinforce the argument that the states do have a preventive guide to help separate the good from the bad when selling firearms. Now this is just a general guideline so the states can still add more onto it depending on their choice. Harcourt, Bernard E. Guns, Crime, and Punishment in America. New York: New York UP, 2003. Print. This book talks about everything involving gun control. It talks about the measures that both sides do to help their own cause, gun tracing, the second amendment and its restrictions, etc. It is a good informative book when it comes to gun control because it isn’t bias and doesn’t lean on one side. Instead this book actually gives more facts and a little bit of opinion but that’s normal with most books. Its going to provide a non-bias look in the research paper by providing information from both sides of the gun control debate. Agresti, James D., and Reid K. Smith. "Gun Control - Just Facts." Gun Control - Just Facts. Just Facts, 13 Sept. 2010. Web. 11 Oct. 2013 In this website it shows only facts about gun control. It shows nothing but hard data that no one can really say anything against. It gives some general facts but it goes into more specific detail like ownership and background checks to accidents and victims to crime. It has such a wide variety of topics that are related to the gun control debate. For example it talks about crime and self-defense and the repercussions it impacts on the population as well as the politics involved in gun control. It is set in a non-bias way to satisfy both parties of the gun control debate.
