Health Update
Gail Glick
Winter’s cold dry air can be harsh on the skin and
as we age we lose more water through the skin.
We are indoors more with less humidity which can
cause the skin to get even dryer. You can avoid dry
skin by being proactive. Several ways to do this is
to lower the temperature of the water you use to
shower, add a humidifier to the room where you
spend the most time, and be sure to moisturize
your skin each day. You don’t need to spend a lot
of money on a moisturizer. There are good ones
that are affordable . Look for a moisturizer that
contains natural fats called ceramides. When you
moisturize your skin is also important. Use it as
soon as possible after showering or washing your
hands to lock in the moisture from the water. Pat
your skin dry, don’t rub it vigorously with a towel.
That way some moisture will be left behind. Using
these measures will result in skin that is less dry,
will itch less, and be less susceptible to injury.

Texas all the way! I was raised in San Antonio, lived
in Dallas 30 years and have been in Austin for the
last 5 years. I owned an Air Conditioning business
with my late husband for 15 years in Dallas. I went
on my first cruise March 2007 and God put Mark in
my life, (got my dancer) we cruise every March to
celebrate how we meet. Together we have 4
children, all but 1 of them live in Austin, the other
is in Japan. We have 2 granddaughters with a 3rd
expected in August. I have a real estate and HVAC
licenses from the state of Texas. My passions are
cooking, dancing, gardening and spending time
with my children and grandchildren.

My Mother was crippled with arthritis early and I
was her primary caregiver for 25 years. Supporting
caregivers and helping seniors find resources is
where I know I am to serve. Being involved in AARP
gives me the opportunity to get involved in these
areas.
