What is Vista PTO? How do I stay updated on events?
T
he Vista Academy PTO would like to
welcome you to the 2012-13 school
year! We are very excited to get to know
all of you, and look forward to working with
you and your children on some very fun and
important events throughout the year.
Vista Academy-Hickory Creek PTO is about men
and women working together toward a common
goal. That goal is creating a better school and
a better educational experience for our
children. We strive to create an atmosphere
where teachers can do their best work—and so
can our children.
The PTO is run separately from the
administration offices of Responsive Ed/Vista
Academy. This means that you will need to fill
out a membership form so that we can begin
updating you on PTO information and events
that you may want to participate in.
Membership in the PTO is free. If you would like
to be a voting member, there is a $10 annual
fee per voting member.
All of our PTO meetings will be held at 6:30 PM
in the cafeteria. There will be FREE childcare
provided for you as well. Our next meeting will
be… So far we have increased our PTO
membership from 151 to 164 and voting
members from 88 to 108 (20% increase from
last year). Our goal is 200 members and 150
voting members by the end of the school year.
Membership forms can be found in the front
office or you may email me and I can send you
an electronic version or place in your child’s
daily folder.
If you have any questions, or would like further
information, please contact Venetta Petties at
vistaacademyhcpto@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you at our next PTO
meeting in November.

Hot off the Press…
ista Academy will be completing
another yearbook for 2012 - 2013
school year. We have a great team
gathered this year to help produce a
completely different from last year! They are
dedicating their time to produce an exciting
and fantastic book.
We do know that it will cost ~$20 (same as
last year) but will be hardcover with 30 more
additional pages. We will be looking at
advertising to help bring down the cost of the
book. If you have questions or would like to
help
please

SCRIPS Fundraiser (Gift Cards)
his is a great way to support Vista Academy and get your gifts out of the way. You can even use the gift cards for your
regular shopping or gas fill-up!
Here are a few of our frequently asked questions and answers:
Q: What is Scrip?
A: SCRIP is a term used for anything that is used in the place of
money. For Vista Academy, it takes the form of gift cards from
local and national merchants and is used like cash in their
stores. When you buy these gift cards in advance of your
shopping, Vista Academy earns a percentage of your purchases
ranging from 3-12%. Just think, money you intend to spend
anyway is generating financial support for our school without
costing you a penny more!
Q: Do I have to pay more than face value of the card?
A: No. If you pay $25 for a card, the card will be valued at $25.
Q: How does Vista Academy make money?
A: Example: one $25 Chili’s gift card will make Vista $2.75.
Chili’s pays 11% of the face value of the card; Ross 9%; WalMart 2%, etc.
Q: Where can I go to order?
A: Go to vista-pto.com and go to Fundraisers. You can print
it off here or pick one up at the office.
Q: When are the orders due?
A: Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday and you will then be able to
pick them up in the office Friday or have them sent home with
your child. The option is on the 2nd sheet of the order form.
Q: Do the cards expire or charge a fee?
A: You will need to check the toll free number on the back
of your card for balance and expiration information. Some
cards may charge a fee if the card is not used.
Evie is working with the scrips consultant on a new promotion
for the school.

Vista Night (Annual PTO Fundraiser)
ista Night is our annual fundraiser to raise money for our school and teachers, as well as an encouragement rally for our older
children who will be participating in the STAAR Testing. They wear personalized sports jerseys and run down an aisle cheered on
by the Vista staff and our Vista Families. With the monies raised in the past the PTO has been able to purchase:
• SMART boards for every classroom
• School cabinets
• Copycat bags for every teacher
• Tablets for the Special Ed teachers
• Laminating machine
• Items for the work room
• Autistic jackets
• Popcorn machine
• Educational software
We do not ask the students to do door-to-door sales for fundraising. Instead, they will collect items for their class themed-baskets for
the silent auction. You will be sent further information on this event as the date comes closer. If you would like to join a team or help
with this very important night, please contact Venetta Petties at vistaacademyhcpto@gmail.com.
Upcoming events/Fundraisers:
• Science Fair May 9th, still looking for external judges
• School Dance (still in early stages of planning)
• Fundraising Skate party at Interskate in Lewisville. It will be a private function but will need at least 100 kids to commit; family
and friends are invited. The entry fee is $5 and includes skates.
