The UN Summer Challenge: Summer 2016
The UN Summer Challenge is a short-term extracurricular activity for students (graduate
programs + final year of undergraduate programs) and recent graduates studying international
relations. This activity is designed to apply their theoretical knowledge gained during the
academic studies in practice and provide attendees a real hands-on experience across different
professional roles in the United Nations. In addition, the course develops substantive knowledge
of the UN System and major global trends on the UN agenda and teaches vital skills in
negotiation, public speaking, problem solving, conflict resolution, research and communication.
The project will be hosted by the School of International and Public Affairs of the Columbia
University and is scheduled for the week May 23 - 29, 2016.

Masters program in Finland
I'm writing to send information about our Master's Program. The program started this year, and
has been renamed
Public Choice to better match our emphasis. The program is designed to give students
quantitative skills (game
theory, experimental and empirical methods, spatial econometrics, and microeconomics) to
address traditional
public choice issues such as institutions, policy design, and the incentives of policy makers to
enact policies.
The program is ideal for students interested in economics and political science. Because we take
only 10 students
per year, classes are small and there is a lot of interaction between the students and
faculty. Courses are
taught by University of Tampere faculty and by a host of visiting professors. Following the
program, students
can remain to complete a PhD, or go on to policy positions.
The program is described on our webpage: http://www.uta.fi/yky/nam/index.html
I have also attached a flyer that has additional information (and has some of the current students
in the picture!)
Applications for the program are between the 14 December, 2015 - 27 January, 2016.
Importantly, Finnish universities charge no tuition.
OPENING: HUD Office of the Secretary Seeking Student Volunteers for Spring
'16
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of the Secretary
(OSEC) is seeking student volunteers for full or part-time positions to work in the Office of the

City Internships | Global Internship Program update
Two brief updates from me ahead of the winter break:
Firstly, we will be launching a 'beta' version of our brand new website today. The new
site showcases many of the bright students that have participated in the Global Internship
Program, together with photos and video footage of this past summer’s programs in London,
New York and Los Angeles. There is also a blog with great early-stage career advice for
both students and graduates. I invite you, and your students, to view the new site here: www.cityinternships.com.
The 'beta' release of our new website coincides with the greatest number of applications
submitted to the Global Internship Program to date. The application process for the 2016 Spring
programs is consequently closing earlier than scheduled.
Students interested in the 2016 Spring programs are advised to apply before 28th December
2015 to avoid disappointment. Applications can be submitted via: www.cityinternships.com/apply/

In addition to our new website, I am pleased to announce the launch of our new Student
Ambassador Program, designed to give students and graduates the opportunity to earn a full
scholarship for the Global Internship Program.
