CURATORIAL VISION
The Scotiabank Nuit Blanche Independent Projects program has a curatorial
theme for the first time in its’ history.
Curated by Che Kothari, the curatorial theme for the 2015 Independent Projects
Program is titled: Memory Lane.
MEMORY LANE
Memory is the faculty by which the mind stores and remembers our experiences.
Our memories shape who we are, the stories we tell and the lens in which we
see the world. They are deeply personal, yet can also be experienced and
created collectively. They surround us, from radio waves echoing through space
to our very DNA.
Celebrating 10 years of Scotiabank Nuit Blanche in Toronto, Memory Lane will
explore the rich and textured terrain of memory, the personal, the shared, the
sacred, the nostalgic, the iconic, the haunting, the political. What memories
shape us the most? What have we allowed to fade away or be distorted? What
do our collective memories reveal about our future? Memory Lane will dissolve
the lines between space, place and time, allowing for contemplation and
reflection while providing fertile ground for the creation of millions of new
memories in the process.
PROJECTS
All Independent Project applications are encouraged to directly reference the
curatorial theme in their project descriptions. The curator, working with City of
Toronto will actively adjudicate and curate (in terms of recommended format and
location) all applications through the lens of this curatorial vision.

BUDGET
Independent Project applicants are solely responsible for all costs associated
with producing their project.
The number one reason for projects to drop out at the last minute is
miscalculating the budget. Describe to us here how you intend to pay for your
project. What we’re looking for is that you have properly described your assumed
expenses and that you have a plan in place to pay for them. Your budget should
balance and can include in-kind donations of goods or services. Your budget
should include artistic, production, technical, logistical, safety and security
considerations.
Feel free to seek additional financial support through grants to enhance your
project. However your project cannot rely on this funding in order to be
successful. You may also seek other sources of funding however approval is
required from City of Toronto.
As previously indicated – projects selected for 10 for 10th will be hosted in a
venue, given a material budget, an artist fee and production / logistics support by
the City of Toronto and the partner organization – but budget overview is still
required in the same detail.
The word count for this budget cannot exceed this page.
