I.
Course Description: The course intends to give an overview of Total Quality
Management (TQM) and its role within organizations. Also the course will discuss the
contribution of TQM to the high quality services of the IS department as well as the
parent organization. The course will also tackle business planning and business process
re-engineering in addition to applying an information system quality strategy. The course
will perceive total quality as a system
II. Course Objectives: Understand total quality concept and techniques for
managing, controlling, and improving quality. Gain the information and skills needed to
implement total quality practices.
Knowledge
The student should acquire the knowledge of various areas of total quality
management, its concepts and techniques.
The student should acquire knowledge about various tools and techniques for
managing, controlling and improving quality.
Cognitive Skills :
The student should be able to apply various total quality management tools and
techniques in analyzing real cases, where they are required to tackle business
planning and business process re-engineering to applying an information
system quality strategy.
Interpersonal Skills & Responsibility
In addition to applying the knowledge, the student should gain teamwork skills
by working hand in hand to produce an overall objective.
Numerical & Communication Skills
The student should develop new approaches for quality planning, design and
improvement. The student should also be able to acquire knowledge of writing
business case and the reports related to the subject of concern

motivation where they can persuade others to work towards achieving total
quality goals

Guidelines for the students :
 Students are advised to follow the text book for this course during the
entire semester. In case the instructor is teaching some extra topics which
are not covered in the text book, photocopy material will be provided for
the same.
 There will be three quizzes for this course. Each carrying 5 marks. Please
refer to page 6 for the assessment dates.
 Request for the change in the quiz and the major dates will not be
entertained except in dire cases. Students make it clear not to have any
clash in quiz/major dates between the other courses they are taking in this
semester.
 Students should not request for makeup exams.
 Students are advised to be regular in the classes. The missed lectures will
not be repeated.
 In case the whole class will miss the lecture, the students should be
prepared to take the quiz for the missed lecture on the following day.
There will be no announcement for the above mentioned quiz.
 Students should daily check their college/personal e-mailboxes or the
website link for the slides, announcements regarding the course.
 All enrolled students MUST ensure that their university email accounts are
working so that they can have an access on the material sent by the
concerned Instructor.
 Attendance is compulsory. The workload for the course will be easier to
manage if you attend classes. Please refer to the warning and DN’s
System. A student getting a DN will not be allowed to sit in the
examination..
