(Explain) Teacher will explain/discuss new vocabulary for chapter 15, monotonous, reputation, audience, distinguish, inconvenient, versatile. (Exploration) Teacher will review adjectives with the students by modeling several examples. Students will then work independently, using an activity sheet from Charlotte’s Web on adjectives. (Evaluation) Students and teacher will begin reading chapter 15 as a whole group from Charlotte’s Web (fiction text) (Extension)After reading chapter 15 students will respond in their reading notebooks to the following question. (Exploration) Students will make a “story fortune teller” Teacher will demonstrate how to fold the paper and model for students what goes in each section. Students will be doing this activity for what has happened in Charlotte’s Web so far. (Evaluation) Students and teacher will read aloud chapter 16. We will discuss as a whole class at the end. (Extension) Teacher and students will review lesson and teacher will assign homework: 1. Home Reading Log 2. Review Academic Vocabulary 3. Choose 10 words and write them in a sentence, using correct ending punctuation. (Engage) –What explanation do you have for why it is important to take the EOG or any kind of assessment? Explain! (Explain) – Teacher will explain to students that we will be going over the benchmark assessment from 2 weeks ago. (Exploration) Teacher and students will go through questions that were missed by 70% or less by the whole class. (Extension) Teacher and students will review lesson and teacher will assign homework: 1. Home Reading Log 2. Review Academic Vocabulary 3. Write ALL your spelling words and circle the vowels in each word. (Engage) List the 5 types of genre that you will encounter on the EOG and give an example story for each type. (Explain) Teacher will introduce new vocabulary for chapter 17 enormous, personality, interview. Teacher will then distribute a biography (nonfiction text) about E.B. White, the author of Charlotte’s Web. (Exploration)- Teacher and students will read through the biography together, discussing, and analyzing it. Questions will be asked throughout the discussion. Teacher and students will also read chapter 17 of Charlotte’s Web. (Evaluation) Students will write their own biography about themselves. Study your spelling words (Engage) Journal – Read the poem and write 1 question you have about it. (Explain) Teacher will introduce the new vocabulary for chapter 18, Teacher will distribute a poem (poetry text) about friendship. Teacher will talk with students about the parts of a poem, how poems are different from nonfiction, fiction, content and consumer. (Exploration) Teacher and students will read a poem together about friendship. Questions will be asked as the poem is read and analyzed. (Evaluation) Students will write their own friendship poem.
