Avatara Overview
Avatara was founded in 2005 to create a game-changing solution to the problems businesses
were experiencing with their traditional IT infrastructure. The founding partners recognized
that businesses were drowning in an ever increasing pool of outages and costs while struggling
to advance their strategic business initiatives. The unique CompleteCloud approach to IT
infrastructure frees the business from the burden of IT and allows focus on core competencies.
Building on years of experience in high availability real-time systems, internet backbone
networking, data center operation, and computer virtualization the Avatara team combined
advances in technology with proprietary knowledge to deliver an IT solution that REDUCES
costs, INCREASES availability and security with a completely different subscription based
business utility model.

capability, and improve their competitive situation with NO capital cost. This allows the
business to use their limited capital budgets for strategic investments that are truly
differentiating.
Since the first delivery of the system in 2006, thousands of business users and their companies
are benefitting from the CompleteCloud.

Why CompleteCloud for XYZ Company
1. Standardization of computers and software:
XYZ will benefit from having all computers standardized with the same version of
Microsoft operating system, Exchange email, and Microsoft Office. Also, centralized file
storage will increase productivity and access to files between locations.
2. Centralized Support for Data and Phone:
XYZ will benefit from having a single support structure for both the phone and
computers throughout all locations. This will eliminate any back and forth between
multiple vendors and simplify the support process for XYZ employees, increasing overall
support time.
3. Current and future Hardware and Software Refresh with No Capital Expense:
XYZ currently has some aging IT infrastructure and hardware, as well as, a need for
additional computers. Moving to the CompleteCloud will free up capital resources for
other projects.
4. Access to your Computer and Network from Anywhere:
XYZ team will enjoy the mobile work environment. They will all be able to login to their
computer from any of the workstation at any of the locations. Techs will have the ability
to share terminal computers while receiving an email account that will be secured and
monitored.
Beyond this they can use iPads, phones, or other personal devices to login to the
network from anywhere.
5. Enhance the Security of your Business Data:
Security is one of the most significant advantages of CompleteCloud over the existing
XYZ network. XYZ will benefit from:
 New Malware
 New Network Firewalls
 New Spam Filters
 Removing Customer and Company Data from PCs and Laptops
 Servers Transitioned from Unlocked Location to Secure Data Center
 Edge and Server level Firewalls
 Intrusion Detection and Active Monitoring
6. Full Technology Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:
XYZ will benefit from backups on all computers, redundancy with two data centers, and
the removal of all data from workstations and on premise servers. In the case of a

disaster to one of the XYZ locations, all data and applications will be easily accessed
through new access devices.
7. 24 X7 Support:
XYZ will move from periodic support once a week for a few hours to full time 24x7
support. More importantly, the brand new infrastructure will need less support.
8. Aligned Economic Incentives for Future Maintenance:
XYZ will not have to worry about an IT Vendor trying to sell them something new to hit
their monthly quota. All future upgrades and enhancements to the network will just be
done by Avatara to provide a better and more consistent service. We are strategically
aligned as an aging infrastructure causes our help desk phones to ring and costs us more
money and headaches to maintain.
9. Predictable Pricing Structure with No Surprises:
XYZ will always be able to budget their IT expenses based on the number of employees
they have. This will simplify current and future IT operating expenses. They will no
longer have surprise expenses as servers, computers or network equipment fail.

Summary of 3 CompleteCloud Solutions
CompleteCloud “Standard” user environment:
This setup is engineered using a VDI desktop with a VMware Hypervisor. Each user has a
dedicated VM running an individual copy of Windows 7 Enterprise, with dedicated memory and
storage resources. Software and configuration may be individualized for the user to any extent.
Additionally, there is no performance interaction with other users on the platform. Access to
the VDI desktop is through Avatara’s connection manager with RDP as the underlying protocol.
CompleteCloud “Terminal Server” environment:
This setup is targeted toward very light weight users who have a common task-based
application such as shop floor job clocking. Users are engineered desktops on a Microsoft RD
Server, with all users on the customer’s terminal server having the same set of applications and
sharing memory and storage resources at the Microsoft OS level with no hypervisor level
separation. Maintenance activities must be performed on all users at the same time. Access to
this desktop is through Avatara’s connection manager with RDP as the underlying protocol.
CompleteCloud “Graphics” environment:
This setup is targeted toward graphics heavy users especially full-time drafters using Autodesk
products. Users are engineered on dedicated computer hardware with one-to-one dedicated
Autodesk certified graphics cards. There is no virtualization or sharing of these compute nodes,
which are resident on-site in the LAN closet. This allows users of this platform to have a very
high-end experience with no degradation from a traditional environment. Access to this
desktop uses the PCOIP protocol by Teradici which supports full motion graphics with no loss on
the LAN. Data access is to a local replica of the cloud data store to allow real-time file open and
close.
CompleteCloud with “customer access device” instead of a Thin Client:
Some businesses have recently invested in new desktop computers, and would like to leverage
those computers to access the cloud based virtual computers. Avatara offers an option to
reload those computers with the access software used on CompleteCloud’s thin clients,
effectively converting those desktops to thin clients. This alternative reduces cost to the
customer on any customer desktop used as a thin client. The customer is responsible for any
hardware failures in this model, with failed desktop units typically replaced by CompleteCloud
thin clients as issues occur.

CompleteCloud Security Overview
Avatara takes the secure storage and confidentiality of our customer’s data very seriously. We
have implemented a world class technical infrastructure to safely store all customer data in a
manner that is accessible, but safe from unauthorized access or theft. This infrastructure
consists of storage in enterprise class data centers with strong physical security, sophisticated
network security systems protecting those data centers, encrypted access to our portal over
the internet, and best practice internal IT controls at Avatara to control internal access to data.
This document summarizes each of those areas to provide an overview of the steps we have
taken to ensure that our customers are protected.
DATA CENTER PHYSICAL SECURITY
1. The CompleteCloud data systems will reside in redundant enterprise class data centers.
These data centers are SAS 70 type II certified. This standard is the audited accounting
standard for information security in data centers, and is recognized as the gold standard
for verifiable information security.
2. 24 X 7 Staffed
The data centers are physically staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Security staff
does rounds of the facility, physically verifying secure outside doors, interior doors, and
enclosures.
3. Video Monitoring
All sections of the data center are video monitored real-time with digital recording of
history. This includes common areas, mechanical areas, and the actual data center
floor. Monitoring is handled by the 24 x 7 operations staff located on-site at each
center.
4. Biometric Access
Access to the buildings and the data center floor is controlled by biometric two-factor
systems. Personnel are fingerprint scanned and must possess an access card at the
same time. All accesses to all areas are logged in security access databases for later
examination.
5. Locked Cabinets
Cabinets on the data center floor are all locked to prevent accidental or intentional
unauthorized access. Access to the equipment in the enclosures requires escort by a
security guard to unlock the cabinet.
DATA CENTER NETWORK SECURITY
1. Edge Firewalls
CompleteCloud powered by Avatara
www.avatara-llc.com | office 314.983-1832 | 1019 Skinker Parkway, St. Louis MO 63112
The data center network is protected from outside intrusion by sophisticated redundant
real-time firewalls. These firewalls restrict all access with disallowed protocols and from
unauthorized locations. The very specific nature of the Avatara system allows a very
small number of access types, reducing the surface area of vulnerability.
2. Flow Based Analysis
The firewalls use flow based state machines to inspect traffic that enters the data center
network. These state machines track allowed network conversations and specifically
reject any traffic that does not match the allowed pattern of communication.
3. Active Intrusion Detection
Traffic is inspected for outside attacks using pattern signatures of known attack
methods. These signatures are updated real-time to adapt to new attacks.
4. Virus Scanning
Data entering the system from the internet is scanned real-time as it comes in for
viruses. This allows viruses to be removed from network data before they are even
received by servers, preventing a wide variety of potential threats.
5. Server Firewalls
The final gatekeepers for network security are the firewalls on the data servers
themselves. These firewalls allow only data traffic that is required for the specific
functionality provided by each server, thus enabling a second more restrictive filter for
traffic that is allowed to progress by the data center edge firewalls.
INTERNAL IT CONTROLS
1. Kerberos Domain Authentication
Avatara uses Kerberos authentication for all internal data access, both to customer data
and Avatara private resources.
2. Password Complexity and Expiration
Password complexity is required as with access to internal systems, and additionally
passwords are expired by policy requiring them to be changed on a periodic basis.
3. Role Based Data Access Controls
Access to data inside the enterprise is role-based. This means that each employee is
specifically granted access only to the data that they require to perform their job
function, restricting access to all data to an as-needed basis.
4. Diskless Workstations
CompleteCloud powered by Avatara
www.avatara-llc.com | office 314.983-1832 | 1019 Skinker Parkway, St. Louis MO 63112
Avatara utilizes diskless workstations to access the systems in the data center. No data
is stored on local hard drives, preventing accidental data loss from theft or loss of
desktop computers and laptops.
