Teaching Plan and Strategy / Presentation of New Material 1 Many times in the transportation industry workers must travel to locales with which they may not be familiar. They may not have a cellular or internet service may not be available. 2 If you are experiencing these challenges how do you transport yourself and your cargo to the proper destination? 3 You will need to read and interpret a map. Activity/Application/ Student Engagement /Laboratory Identify a location outside of their school district/city/county at least 200 miles away. Have students read a map and identify various transportation routes available indicating exact distance, identifying marks along the route and approximate time of arrival. (rivers, cities, grades, water crossings, railroads, types of roads, etc.) Utilize mapquest for directions. Utilize googleearth for directions.
