Simpson Middle School Council Nominee Bio’s SY 2014-2015 Catherine Batterton My son, Brandon is a 6th grader at Simpson and my daughter Reagan is currently a 4th grader at Kincaid. This will be my 2nd year as the PTA Co-President at Kincaid. I have served on the PTA board at Kincaid for approximately 6 years. I work with Kincaid’s Foundation as a liaison with PTA. Last year I served on Kincaid’s School Council, as well as Kincaid’s STEM council. I have a teaching certificate and am also a substitute teacher. I truly love the education field. I would love the opportunity to be involved with Simpson’s School Council and allowing me to learn more about the Simpson community and how I can help make a positive impact. Cheimeka Bryant As a proud mom of my 11 year old son and a resident of East Cobb, I am excited about the opportunity to serve on the school council and to bring innovative ideas to the school system. For the past 10 years, as a Project Manager in health science research and improving public health programs, I promote education, health and well- being of children and families. I have held a range of leadership positions serving as County Program Director for legislator, Clinical Team Project Manager/Revenue Cycle Management and PTA committee positions. There is strength in leading through collaboration to improve education, solve educational concerns and develop ways parents can improve their children’s educational experience. Jen-i DeBetta I am currently a homemaker with four children: two are at Simpson, 6th and 8th grade and two are at Mountain View Elementary. I started volunteering for the PTA when my oldest was in kindergarten. I have done room mom, book fair, heroes and other volunteering opportunities. I have a bachelors from UGA and a masters from Long Island University. I was National Sales Manager for an international optics company for 6 years. Also, I was para-legal for a law firm for 4 years. Currently I enjoy working at Simpson at the front office and would love the opportunity to serve on Simpson’s school council. Tisa Jairrels-Franklin I am new to Simpson and I have a son who is currently in the 6th grade. I am currently on the East Cob Council PTA as covice president. This is my second year serving in this position. I am also the membership chair for Sprayberry High School. I have served on two other PTA boards for many years. I am a Branch Underwriter for a local car dealership in Marietta, Ga. I know that my background will be an asset to Simpson and am interested in serving on the school council. Kelly Sturniolo I have two sons, Eric, who is a senior at Lassiter and Matthew, who just started in 6th grade. Every year my children have been in school, I have joined the PTA and PTSA. I served as PTSA secretary for 2 years at Lassiter. I went to the PTSA training event and have attended the local and state PTSA meetings, where Lassiter PTSA has received many awards. In the past, I have helped out the chorus teacher with fundraisers, have headed up the committee for the LGPE, Large Group Performance Evaluation, am a member of the Lassiter Chorus Booster Association and have chaperoned the chorus as they went to the Brave’s game and sang the National Anthem. I really love being a part of my community. It’s important to me being involved at Simpson and giving back by learning what’s going on and sharing in the decisions of my child’s future.
