Aycock JROTC will execute Operation “Get Smart” the Academic Enhancement Program for all Cadet’s assigned to CBA JROTC in order to sustain essential academic skill sets and prepare for the ACT, SAT, ASVAB and mandated State Testing.* *The Army JROTC mandated curriculum will be taught as directed by Cadet Command. The Academic Enhancement Program is an extension of our CBA JROTC program implemented to support the academic and career development needs of our Cadet Corps. “We soar for academic excellence” Academic Enhancement Program (AEP) Concept of the Program Five Phased Enduring Program Phase 1 (August 2012) – Daily News & Word of the Day Sessions Phase 2 (January 2013) – Leaders Essay Program & Peer to Peer Tutoring Program Phase 3 (August 2013) – Golden Medallion Program, Khan Academy Math Assessment, Scholarship Preparation Program(ACT Preparation/Physical Fitness) & Today in History Review Phase 4 (January 2014) – All March 2 Success Preparation Programs & Famous People in History Presentations Phase 5 (Spring 2017) – Academic Enhancement Program Assessment of 2014 Fall Freshman Class (Cadets will be Juniors) State Test, ACT and ASVAB Scores and Scholarship Status Academic Enhancement Program (AEP) Overview/Support Programs Peer to Peer Tutoring Program Administrative Overview AEP currently in Phase 4. Program is managed by a senior officer JROTC Cadet with the support of academic Cadet managers at the unit level assigned to each class period. Parent/Guardian will receive updates periodically on Cadets Progress and their Cadet’s AEP test preparation schedule. Cadets AEP test preparation appointments are located on the AEP calendar located on the lower right of the JROTC homepage. Cadet Scholarship Preparation Program(SPP) SPP Cadets are screened and selected for program from all grade levels. Online Extensive Test Preparation Transcript Review and Tracking Cadet’s are tracked extensively in all assigned classes. Parent/Guardian Updates Long Range Planning Calendar for each Cadet. Challenging Physical Fitness Program (Physically Tested Monthly) Any Cadet can request tutoring at anytime. All Cadets in the Corps must show their progress reports to their designated JROTC Instructor. - Reports are stamped and signed by instructor. - Instructor places initial by any class that has a grade of “C” or below. - Cadet is assigned a tutor based on the assessment of the instructor. Mandatory for all SPP Cadets with a grade of a “C” or below in any course. Tutoring is during the JROTC class period in the Cafeteria for 25 minutes (Monday-Thursday) All tutors are currently JROTC Cadets that demonstrated excellence in their designated subjects. Golden Medallion Program The Medallion symbolizes outstanding citizenship and commitment to academic excellence. Awarded to Cadets who successfully complete a set of qualification tests including both written and performance assessments. Cadets are also required to possess a high level of academic and self-discipline in order to maintain the privilege of wearing the Golden Medallion. Testing is conducted each semester. The program currently has a 10% passing rate. The program is located on the JROTC Webpage “Military Scholarships & College Test Preparation Tool Box” page”. March 2 Success is composed of three primary preparation and testing sections. High School Math and Verbal Skills College Readiness Online Course ACT/SAT Practice Tests and Flashcards Khan Academy Online Program Extensive online tutoring program. Students use the extensive library of instruction videos to assist with understanding English, Math and Science content. Great tool to assist with test preparation (ASVAB, ACT, SAT). SPP Cadets must register and use the online math tutoring program which consist of adaptive assessment courses for personalized learning programs. Helps Cadets sustain their writing skills. All essays require research. Leaders are relieved of their positions for failure to comply. February’s subject is Madeleine Albright. March’s subject is Representative Tammy Duckworth/Overview of the Veterans Affairs Administration Famous People In History Presentations Weekly Assignments (Monday – Wednesday) Cadets are randomly selected for this assignment. Three Cadets are selected each week to each provide a one paragraph overview of a famous person. Assignments are designated by the Army Instructors and coincide with National Commemorative Month’s and/or National Holidays. Black History Month’s assignments include Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, Julian Bond and Eddie Robinson.
