Research-based
The CLC has been
developed from the
guidance and research
of experts in the field of
curriculum alignment.
Research-based
 Create defined sequences that give
teachers a clear picture of when each skill
should be taught within a school year.
Curriculum refers to a specific blueprint for
learning that is derived from content and
performance standards. Curriculum takes content
and shapes it into a plan for effective teaching and
learning.
(Wiggins, Grant & McTighe, Jay (1998) Understanding by
Design)
Research-based
 Create an aligned map of all TEKS so that
PK-12 teachers understand how the skills they
teach relate to those skills above and below
their grade level.
…mapping enables teachers to identify gaps,
redundancies, and misalignments in the curriculum
and instructional programs and to foster dialogue
among teachers about their work.
(Jacobs, Heidi Hayes (2004) Getting Results With
Curriculum Mapping)
Research-based
 Create documents that allow teachers
to understand the depth and rigor of each
student expectation within the TEKS.
When you teach conceptually, the focus
shifts from memorizing isolated facts as the
end game to using facts as a tool for
understanding the deeper, transferable
concepts and principles.
(Erickson, Lynn (2001) Stirring the Head, Heart and
Soul)
Data - Driven
Region 5’s TAKS scores are
consistently above the state
average with several subject area
making great gains.

activity to meet your students’ needs.
However, the older lesson activities may
be in PDF format.
NEW CLC GRADE LESSON ACTIVITY
UNIT: Measurement (capacity)
TEKS: 3.11E, F
MATERIALS: large container of rice for each group
measuring cup for each group
containers of different sizes for each group
TEACHER STRATEGY:
Introduce capacity by using containers of different sizes to fill bigger containers
with water continue to do this several times.
Explain to students that capacity is the amount that it takes to fill other containers.
STUDENT ACTIVITY:
Put students in groups of two and have the students use the measuring cup and
rice to fill the containers counting the number of cups used to fill each container.
Also have students observe the capacity of other containers by pouring the
contents from one container to another.
After students have worked with filling containers have them order from the
container that holds the most to the container that holds the least.
ASSESSMENT:
Teacher observation of groups filling containers with rice.
