Position/Candidate Summary: This position will manage all the underwriting functions for VGM Insurance with a primary focus on our Captive book of business in Bermuda. Duties include: managing and expanding our carrier relationships, oversight of our reinsurance contract and structure, and the development of new products and markets. The Vice President of Underwriting will also be responsible for the compliance team, overseeing licenses and contracts nationwide. This leader will be a valuable contributor to the VGM Insurance management team and will play a key role in our success. Reports to: Pay: Hours: VGM Insurance President: Mike Kloos Exempt Position; Salaried Full-time; 40 hours/week, travel will at times be required Additional hours as necessary to accomplish goals and deliverables of the position Qualified Candidates Must Possess: Strong knowledge and experience of property and casualty insurance including: coverages, rating, terminology and technical procedures. Experience in evaluating insurance risks submitted to determine eligibility, profitability and desirability to determine acceptance or rejection in accordance with established guidelines. Responsible for all servicing of accounts - delegating as needed to Underwriting Associate or Assistant. Must be sales driven, “people person” who likes to establish new relationships. Work independently in a paperless environment within assigned territory, traveling as required. Demonstrates professional, tactful negotiation skills. Position Requirements: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in underwriting and servicing the insurance needs of insurance clients. Bachelor degree in business related field, or equivalent education and/or experience. CPCU, CIC, RPLU, designation preferred but not required Demonstrated ability to instill confidence and comfort with clients. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Proven attention to detail, follow-through skills, and problem solving skills. Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize heavy workloads to meet time sensitive deadlines.
