at Proctor.) what say you to that? (Proctor is struck
silent.) Come now. You say your only purpose is to
save your wife. Good then, she is saved at least this

hands.) It is done now. Will you drop this charge?
(Proctor thinks, looks at Corey.)
PROCTOR: I… I think I cannot.
DANFORTH: Then your purpose is somewhat larger?
PARRIS: (Triumphantly.) He’s come to overthrow this
