Unit 7 – Right Triangles

The instructional goals for this curriculum unit:
 Solve real-world application problems using Pythagorean Theorem.
 Solve real-world application problems using trigonometric ratios.
 Use coordinate points to determine measures of length, including distance.
 Relate the distance formula to the Pythagorean theorem
Enduring understandings:
A variety of methods exist to solve for unknown side lengths/angles of right triangles.
A relationship exists between the side lengths of a right triangle and its acute angles.
Essential questions:
What special relationships occur between the sides of a right triangle and its acute angles?
Compare and contrast different methods (Pythagorean Theorem, special right triangles,
geometric mean, and trigonometry) used when solving for a missing side or angle in a right
triangle.
What is the most appropriate method for solving for missing sides and/or angles based on
given information?
