Common problems and solutions

Problem: My labels are really long.
The Dymo LabelWriters have a default label roll loaded. You will need the Dymo
LabelWriter, Multipurpose labels, 1” x 2 1/8”, 500 labels/roll from the Marking
supplies shelf (in the Marking Unit).

Problem: The call number has 10+ characters and will not fit on the
label. What do I do?
If you have formatted the call number using the appropriate font (Courier New,
12pt., Bold) and with appropriate breaks between Shelving Prefix, LC class,
cutters, date, enumeration, change the font to Courier New, 11pt., Bold Print the
label. If the call number fits on the label, send it on. If the call number still does
not fit, break the call number at the decimal. Don’t forget to change the label
font back to 12 pt.

Problem: The printing is not clear or seems light. How can I fix
this?
Check to make sure your font is set to the proper setting, (Under Filters: Font
type: Courier New, 12 pt. Bold). If the Font is at the proper setting, your unit
may need cleaning. LabelWriter cleaner cards are located on the labeling
supplies shelf in Marking.

Common problems and solutions

Problem: My labels are printing skewed or I have a “paper jam”.
What do I do?
You may need to take the roll of labels out and re-feed it. You may also need to
clean your Labelwriter using a special cleaning card (see Marking).

Problem: The Dymo labeler is not responding. What can I do to fix
it?
Check in SnagIt to ensure that the Dymo LabelWriter has been selected as the
printer. If you have checked everything (power, printer setting, etc.), contact
Support using http://lotus.libs.uga.edu/techsupport/ (available via the libraries
homepage  Quicklinks)

Problem : The tool tips in SnagIt are driving me crazy!
Turn them of under notifications.

Problem: My settings are missing (or wrong). What do I do?
Reset your preferences using the setup instructions. If you are having problems
with shortcut keys conflicting with GIL or Macro Express, reassign your SnagIT
keys (located under the Tools menu  Program Preferences  Hot Keys)

Common problems and solutions




Problem: I think my software needs upgrading. Who is responsible for
upgrades and installation?
Support. However, given that there are multiple users with multiple versions of
SnagIt, please check with your supervisor prior to requesting an upgrade. The
Libraries do receive a volume discount for this product.
Problem: I don’t understand what I am supposed to do with my
Labelwriter.
For each new title processed, create a label (one call number on one label)
and place it in the book with the label sticking out along with the marking slip.
You will use SnagIt and the item record to generate the labels (see instructions
p. 1-12). For re-marks and adjustments, create a label (one call number on one
label) and place it in the book (no need for a Marking slip). Re-marks are placed
on the adjustments shelf.
Problem: I need to create labels for a multiple items of the same title (e.g.,
serial, mono set, etc.)
The easiest way to create labels with the same base call number is to retrieve
an item record from the title. Following the Labelwriter instructions, capture the
call number information. From this screen you can add enumeration, copy info,
etc. printing each label as changes are made.
Problem: I need more help!
Check out the Label Primer. Jasmine, Robin or Ken, may be of help, too!

Supply related questions and answers



Q: What type of labels do we use?
A: Dymo LabelWriter, Multipurpose labels, 1” x 2 1/8”, 500 labels to a
roll
Q: What do I do with the default roll of labels that is loaded in my
new LabelWriter? Can I use it to make call number labels for
books?
A: You can use the labels for mailing labels or other uses, but not for
books. Please replace the default roll with the proper size (1” x 2 1/8”)
prior to creating labels for books.
Q: I am out of labels. How do I get new labels? Who orders them?
A: Marking has a shelf for labeling supplies and is responsible for
keeping a supply on hand. If you take a label roll and there are only 5
boxes of label rolls left, please alert the Marking Supervisor so that she
can place an order.

Supply related questions and answers



Q: There are no label roll boxes on the shelf in Marking. What do I
do?
A: Someone else has taken the last roll(s) of labels and should have
notified the Marking Unit Supervisor. Please doublecheck with the
Marking Supervisor (if not available, the DBM Section Head or
Cataloging Dept. Head) ASAP. You may need to borrow labels until the
order arrives.
Q: What other supplies are involved in the labeling process?
A: There are LabelWriter cleaning cards located next to the labels in
Marking. Additionally, Marking applies label shields to protect these
labels. Music Cataloging orders and maintains their own supply of
smaller sized label shields for Music CDs.
Q: I need help!
A: Check the Label Primer first. Jasmine, Robin or Ken, may be of
help, too!.
