3. Briefly describe the motivation for starting this group.
In1978, some young idealist social workers came together to build up an
organization dedicated to serve the most exploited section of the society. The
women and children of villages and slums were identified as this section and a
comprehensive plan was worked out to bring about an integrated development of
these people. Thus the institute of social work was born, and for more than three
decades, it has steadfastly worked to achieve this goal.



Integrated development for women and children.
Development of the outlook of the students through education and outreach
programmes.

Cultural awakening and promotion of health fro women and children.

Development of imaginative power and creativity of the women and children.

Preparing children for admission in formal schools.

1,750 children have gone through our programme in the past five years.

They are continuing educations, formal education classes with other school and some
are continuing with us.

We are helping the children to continue their education and keeping watch so that
they could not drop out from school.

We are helping them to take admission any vocational training classes.

There are possibilities to get employment who passed Higher Secondary or any other
Vocational courses.
19. Do you help your students with their future education efforts after they have passed out of your
school?

area? If so, please list the schools and the range of classes each of them offers.

There is one Higher Secondary school and one Elementary school in the area,
Elementary school offers I to IV class and High School offers I to X class.
21. Is your program different from that provided at these schools? Please explain.
1. Individual care for students.
2. Special care for the children who could not follow their studies properly.

4. Home visit by the teacher to know their domestic situation and encourage parents to
sent their children at school.

22. Why are the children in your school/s not attending government/other schools in the local
area?

The children getting special care by the teachers and teachers are trying to
encourage the children by music, rhymes, games etc.

We have a big playground inside the school which was not other school in the
local area.

Caring students by the teachers and connection with the families and freedom
of children are the reasons attending our school.
23. Do you try to involve the parents of the children in the running of the school (e.g. in setting the
syllabus etc.)? Please specify.

Every month we organize guardians meeting for each class and we explaining them
about the syllabus and our teaching procedure.

As most of the parents could not understand the studies of higher classes, we mostly
involve them at elementary level.

During the meeting we show exercise books and other drawing painting materials to
the guardians and taking suggestion about the procedure.

We always taking suggestions from the guardians regarding vacation period and
examination procedure.
24. What are your expansion plans for the future (e.g. adding more classes or schools)?

We have a plan to keep these children for more hours at the school through Day Care
Centre because most of the children coming from distressed families and they do not
study at all after going back home and some children have to face situation of
domestic violence against their mothers by which a trauma develop among them. So
we will try to extend values, inspiration, confidence, strength, fellow feeling among the
children so that in future they can be a part of Just Society.
25. Do you have any suggestions on how Asha can be a positive influence in changing the
education scenario in India?

Children at risk of marginalization in education are found in all societies. What
they have in common are missed opportunities to develop their potential, realize their
hopes and build a better future through education. The care and education children
receive in their earliest years affect the rest of their lives. Effective early childhood
care and education can give children a better chance of escaping poverty and
overcoming disadvantage. Many children of lower secondary school age are also out
of school, either because they have not completed primary school or because they
were unable to make the transition to lower secondary school. Institute of Social
Work is trying its best to minimize this huge problem. Asha can join hands with
organization like Institute of Social Work and others to overcome the situation and
influenced to change the total scenario by their modest financial support, suggestions,
materials, information and so on.
