The Tres Dias weekend offers
today's disciples an opportunity
to rediscover Christ's presence
in their lives, to gain fresh
understanding of God's
transforming grace, and to form
friendships that foster faith
and support spiritual maturity.
While Tres Dias provides a
pathway to the mountaintop of
God's love, it also supports
“pilgrims' return to the world
in the power of the Spirit to
share the love they have
received with a hurting world.
To get involved in Tres Dias,
each person must have a sponsor
who has already attended Tres
Dias, or a similar three-day
experience, him- or herself. If
you have a friend who has been
to Tres Dias, ask your friend to
tell you about his or her
experience with the weekend.
Your friend can help you decide
whether or not you would find a
Tres Dias experience helpful.
Please prayerfully plan to join
as on our next set of “walks
with Christ”.
What is
Tres Dias?
Tres Dias is a spiritual
renewal program intended to
strengthen the local church
through the development of
Christian disciples and
leaders. The program's approach
seriously considers the model
of Christ's servant-hood and
encourages Christ's disciples
to act in ways appropriate to
being "a servant of all."
The Tres Dias experience begins
with a 72-hour short course in
Christianity, comprised of
fifteen talks by laymen and
pastors on the themes of God's
grace, disciplines of Christian
discipleship, and what it means
to be the church. The course is
wrapped in prayer and
meditation, special times of
worship and daily celebration
of communion. The "Tres Dias
community," made up of those
who have attended a Tres Dias
weekend, support the 72-hour
experience with a prayer vigil,
by preparing and serving meals,
and other acts of love and
self-giving. The Tres Dias
weekend typically begins
Thursday evening and concludes
Sunday evening. Men and women
attend separate weekends.
During and after the three days,
Tres Dias leaders encourage
participants to meet regularly
in small groups. The members of
the small groups challenge and
support one another in faithful
living. Participants seek to
grow in their relationship with
Christ in order to impact their
environments of family, job, and
community through the ministry
of their congregations. The
three-day Tres Dias experience
and follow-up groups strengthen
and renew Christian people as
disciples of Jesus Christ and as
active members of the body of
Christ in mission to the world.
Tres Dias is an adaptation of
the Roman Catholic Cursillo
Movement, which originated in
Spain in 1949. Cursillo de
Cristianidad means "little
course in Christianity." The
original Cursillo leaders
designed the program to empower
persons to transform their
living and working environments
into Christian environments.
The original Cursillo leaders
designed the program to empower
leaders and potential leaders to
transform their living and
working environments into
Christian environments. During
the 1960s and 1970s, several
denominational groups offered a
“cursillo-like weekend. Tres
Dias began to offer nondenominational weekends in 1978.
Tres Dias is
interdenominational. The
program invites and involves
the participation of Christians
of many backgrounds. Tres Dias
is interdenominational not only
because members of many
denominations participate, but
because Tres Dias seeks to
foster Christian unity and to
reinforce the whole Christian
community. This is one of the
great strengths and joys of the
Tres Dias movement.
A Little Bit About Us
The Orange County Tres Dias
Community was birthed out of
the Orange County Walk To
Emmaus
Community in the spring of
2007. Our goal is to provide
an interdenominational weekend
following the “Orange County”
hybrid model to deepen people’s
daily walk with Christ through
love and service. We want to
pass on the meaningful growing
experience that we have each
shared in. If you are
interested in participating on
a weekend, please contact any
of the community
representatives listed on the
back page. If you have already
participated in one of the
three-day experiences (Tres
Dias, Cursillo, Walk To Emmaus,
Kairos, or Chrysilis) and would
like to be considered part of
this community, please contact
us.
