becoming
4. Potential is the seed that houses the capability to

Potential Dormancy

1. What is Seed Dormancy?
• Seed dormancy are seeds which are alive,
but metabolically inactive and incapable of
germination under conditions which are
normally favorable for the species. In other
words, the seed is supplied with everything
needed to germinate but doesn’t. The seed
is asleep waiting for the proper activity to
awaken it.
Potential Dormancy: The seed of potential is
asleep waiting for the proper activity to awaken
it.

Two major conditions that causes “Seed Dormancy”
• Exogenous- which is caused by various conditions
outside the seed
- Impermeability
o Nothing can penetrate the outer shell
• Endogenous –which is caused by certain conditions
within the seed
- Underdeveloped
- Immaturity
- Sensitivity
o Light
o Heat
o Cold

Solution to Exogenous –
Impermeability
• Seed Scarification – The shell must be altered.
Only through the process of:
Breaking, scaring, scratching, cracking or even boiling
stimulates seeds potential
• Spiritual Meaning: Affliction stimulates Potential.
• Example:

Solution to Endogenous – Underdeveloped,
Immature, Sensitive
• Seed Stratification- This is a process which alters
the seeds environment in order to stimulate
germination
• Spiritual Meaning: Ordained Situations stimulate
Potential
