ADVERTISING SPEECH
I. Introduction
A. There are two types of motivation; intrinsic which is personal motives that urge us to do something,
extrinsic motivation are those outside forces that motivate us to do, say, or even buy certain
things. An advertisers’ job is to strike your attention and rev your extrinsic motivation in hopes
that you will buy a specific product.
B. Experts conducting marketing research suggest that as teenagers you can be exposed up to 3000 ads
and messages a day. Messages that are enticing you to look, act, and buy certain products.
C. The purpose of my speech today is to discuss and help you understand a print advertisement.
D. I will first talk discuss the ad, then I will explain the advertising strategies and finally I will explain to you
how motivational appeals are used throughout the ad.
