1.

Prop Me Up

Create a prop from the story (armor, a monster’s body part, a sword used in a fight, a piece of the dragon’s treasure, etc.). Make it as realistic as possible, but do not get in trouble for bringing a weapon to school!!

2.

What Ever Happened To…

Hrothgar? Or Grendel’s Father? Or Welthow? Or Wiglaf? Write one of these character’s stories, describing what you think happened to him or her after we last hear from him in the epic. How did he/she react to the events in the story? How long did he/she live? You may write in one of two ways: essay format with a proper introduction and conclusion or in the style of the epic poem. 150 Words

3.

I Fail To See The Humor

In comic-strip style format, illustrate a scene from the epic (one of the fights, a feast in Herot, the thief stealing the cup, Beowulf’s funeral, etc.). Use at least four frames to illustrate the scene.

4.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Create a movie poster for a modern-day movie version of Beowulf . Cast the main parts with today’s actors and actresses. Include all the components of a movie poster (show times, dates, cast list, an illustrated scene from the play, director/producer/etc., and a catchy slogan).

Make the cast and crew different from those cast in the 2007 version!

5.

Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way

Write Beowulf’s last Will and Testament, indicating his plans for his kingdom, his possessions, and his last wishes for what is to be done with his body. Write and decorate the document. 125 Words

6.

Say What?

Choose one of the major speeches from the epic and “translate” it – that is, rewrite it into today’s language (you may even use slang if you would like!). Possible speech choices:

Beowulf’s introduction to the guard when he arrives in Denmark, Beowulf’s boast to

Hrothgar when he arrives in Denmark, Beowulf’s speech before his final battle with the

Dragon, Wiglaf’s speech to stand by Beowulf, or Beowulf’s last words. 125 Words

7.

Beowulf in Rap Form

Create a rap about the epic Beowulf. Be sure to include all important information about the story: who, what, where, when, and why. Must be 20 lines minimum.
