Job Description The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and planned gift donors and prospects, including corporations and foundations, for Trinity University. As a primary, front-line fundraiser, this position manages relationships with an extensive prospect portfolio and spends a minimum of 30% of their time on out of office, face-toface contacts in Texas and the Northeast region. Candidates must demonstrate a history of working effectively with academic leaders, alumni, parents, and friends to cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned gifts. Reports to Director of Major and Planned Gifts Qualifications and Characteristics Unquestioned personal integrity, credibility, maturity and work ethic; Energy, enthusiasm and self-confidence in building relationships for the University; Strong knowledge of major gift practices, donor cultivation, and planned giving; Ability to interact with all levels of the University community; and Demonstrated ability in public speaking, written and oral communication, including the ability to plan, organize and effectively present ideas and concepts. Responsibilities Identify, cultivate and solicit major and planned gifts for the University; Manage a successful major gifts portfolio, with independent responsibility to develop and execute strategies leading to a solicitation of each prospect; Actively seek to expand the prospect pool via identifying, qualifying and engaging new prospects; Cultivate and present proposals to corporate and foundation prospects as requested; Provide support for other fundraising activities as well as work with volunteer committees and individual alumni volunteers; and Work collaboratively with other members of the Advancement division including Alumni Relations and Annual Giving to meet objectives and strengthen relations with the University. Requirements A Bachelors degree, master’s degree preferred; A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience required, with preference given to candidates with a proven track record in major gifts in a compatible University environment and familiarity with the Northeast region; Working knowledge of planned giving; Ability to work non-traditional business hours, weekends and travel when necessary; and Proficiency in the use of computers, including Microsoft Office suite.
