Atonement?
What do we mean by this?
2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (NASB)
18 Now all these things are from God, who
reconciled us to Himself through Christ and
gave us the ministry of reconciliation,
19 namely, that God was in Christ
reconciling the world to Himself, not
counting their trespasses against them, and
He has committed to us the word of
reconciliation.
Romans 5:10-11 (KJV)
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were
reconciled to God by the death of his Son,
much more, being reconciled, we shall be
saved by his life.
11 And not only so, but we also joy in God
through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we
have now received the atonement.
The atonement:
is the benefits Christ gained for believers
in his life, death and resurrection.
Romans 5:8 (NASB)
8 But God demonstrates His own love
toward us, in that while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us.
The Grace of Atonement
The atonement did not bring about grace.
The atonement flowed from grace.
