Mrs. Connie, 3A and Mr. André 3B About Mrs. Connie 3A I am from Ohio, USA. I received a Master´s in Education from the Kent State University. My specialties are Math, Science, and Literacy. This is my 6th year teaching 3rd grade. I have been with PAS for 3 years. My husband, Eric Murray, and I have been together for 11 years. Eric taught at Kent State University and is currently doing research for his PhD. In my spare time I like to cook, go for very long walks, and ride my bike around the city. About Mr. André 3B I am from Porto Alegre. I have a double-major degree in Languages (Portuguese and English) from PUCRS. I’m currently working on my Master’s in Educatiaon. This is my fifth year working for PAS. I have participated in various PYP and Everyday Math professional development sessions. Spending two years in London offered me an insight into several aspects of both language and culture. I am a computer and sci-fi enthusiast and love going to the theater. Curriculum Everyday Math Program Number and Numeration Data and Chance Patterns, Functions, and Algebra Language Arts Guided Reading Program Spelling The Writing Process Words Their Way PYP Units of Inquiry Family Histories Healthy Body Systems Communities Changing Earth The Power of Art Sharing the Planet - Water Procedures in Place: Weekly planner- This is used for students to write in their homework and special assignments. Please check and initial this daily. This is often a method of corresponding between teacher and parent. Please feel free to leave messages in this planner. Homework packets- Students will receive homework packets that will review and expand skills in Math, Language Arts, and Inquiry. These will be handed out on Fridays and will have a due date on the cover. Typically they are due in one week. Check email- Most of the school correspondence is sent via email or through the class website. Please check this often. Also, please feel free to email the teachers when necessary, as this is often the fastest method of correspondence. Weekly reading practice- Student will often be sent home with weekly reading books and poems. Please send these back every day as these are also used in class. Fridays are special days. Please look in your child´s folder to view current work samples, and related scheduling events. Behavior Management 3B Point System – Every week students will have a fresh start with 5 points. They keep these points by following classroom rules and gain points as they show effort. “Golden Rings” offer the class the opportunity to obtain special rewards. As students fail to follow rules, they lose points Behavior Management 1. Student is given one verbal reminder. This is a great day! 2. Students flips to the yellow area. This is still a good day. 3. Student flips to the orange area at this time the student has a conference with the teacher during recess (5-10 minutes). 3. Student flips to the red area. At this time the student has a conference with the teacher, and spends all of recess time in the classroom. Parents are notified. Library schedule: 3A Language Arts: Day F Portuguese: Day A 3B Language Arts: Day C Portuguese: Day B Students will be encouraged to select books from various genres.
